More Syd.

The Madcap Laughs is an incredible audio trip to take if you ever get the chance. I love how simple and bare it is, compared to the rest of Pink Floyd's stuff, you can really see the nakedness of his talent in it.




This song is the best from the "Barrett" album, which was definitely over-produced by Gilmore and Waters. Unfortunately, at least it still gives us more of his songs, even if they were tampered with during production.

No other song I know of takes me to a place quite like the place this song takes me. It takes me somewhere happy, and beautiful, somewhere different, but relate-able, somewhere beyond. It is probably the Beatles trippiest song I can think of to be honest, and whenever I am in it, listening, I cannot literally describe the feeling, with words.

I recently purchased a remastered copy of Magic Mystery Tour and on Flying there's all kinds of things going on with the different stereo channels if you listen to it.

Even with all the technology available to the modern day producers and sound engineers, nobody can replicate the wondrous sound quality George Martin produced for the Beatles in Abbey Road studio 2. It's hard to believe that the Beatles didn't even have access to an studio with an 8 track recorder until 1968.

When the Beatles replaced George Martin with Phil Spector as their audio producer on their last album Let It Be there was a drastic decline in the quality of the sound. Compared to to George Martin, Spector's mix on Let It Be sounded half assed and murky. Spector's misuse of orchestras, horn ensembles and chorus singers on some the cuts sounded contrived, pretentious and out dated. Spector was past his prime and his ballyhooed Wall of Sound production techniques were primarily designed for studio production for monaural recordings in the early Sixties.

For all of his background in classical music production, George Martin was always very careful about over-embellishing the Beatle's recordings with strings, chorus singers and horn sections. On the songs where Martin used added string or horns in post production, Martin did it brilliantly like on Eleanor Rigby, A Day In Life, & I Am the Walrus.
