Oxeneers or the Lion Sleeps When It's Antelopes Go Home by These Arms are Snakes

Year: 2004

This record man...

First of all, I loved it. Just want to put that out there. It's elements all really went together to make something great. The first track starts off with some awesome flanged drums, then kicks in with some killer vocals and ATDI-esque guitar jangling. The great experimental qualities carry throughout the first half of the album, with frantic DnB-influenced drums and fuzzed out bass by the guy from Botch (Botch!). My favorite track comes up around 4 or 5, starting as a somber ballad and increasing into a screaming frenzy. I can't help but compare this to the Blood Brothers, with the distorted organs, vocals, and all: but with them being a favorite band of mine, I can't help but want more of what they do. The album really comes into it's own with the beautiful, atmospheric guitar lines sprinkled throughout. My only complaint is it sort of loses it's momentum halfway through, the songs are still well done but they seem to harp on formulas. I'll try relistening if I'm not getting the right picture of the latter half. Thanks, Mondo. This is really great.

8/10

I'll check that dictionary, but in the meantime I'm impressed - as is everyone else in the world - by your eloquence, obvious accomplishments and success, and the evidence of your blazingly high intelligence.

More or less, mostly technical/progressive if anything. From what little black metal I've heard so far, I think I like that better.

I know you said I was giving a lot of recs, but this one isn't for a review (unless you ever wanted to), just something you could possibly fall in love with. A marriage of technical death metal and post-hardcore, two styles so far apart yet this is super gravy. If I come across anyone who happens to be into both genres, I just gotta recommend this amazing album.

So yeah, just a general suggestion and I'm putting it here. Could have fun with it though.

I don't mind reviewing it but it'll probably be after all the others. Like it from what I've heard of it though, eager to get into it. I'm planning on doing anoter TARS review in an hour or two so stay tuned.

This is Meant to Hurt You (EP) by These Arms Are Snakes

Year: 2003

The first release by TARS, this album showcased the group's raw youthful energy. As opposed to their more experimental debut album, this feels a lot more straightforward, and I think I enjoy it slightly more. The beautiful guitar work is here, and seems a little more frequent, the screams are chill-enducing... man, just everything about this is so great. Still not my favorite album are anything, but really, really good anyways.

Pitctiah is such a bizarre and intriguing animal. Post hardcore that is pretty much as off kilter as it gets, with strange compositions to their music and a heavily sample driven concoction, tied together with a dancey sensibility

I hope you don't think I'm like pressuring or something bromo-sapien. I just like them and this an extravaganza after all.

No I mean I'm really wanting to listen to it. I heard a bit and it's amazing, but I don't want to spoil the discog run before I finish off the other recs.
