1980 WWF Madison Square Garden Intro Music
 

From the beginning to around 1:10. I'm not super familiar with all of the disco related instrumentals around that time, so this one I can't id. Thanks for any help.

Trying to locate this gem in library music archives (KPM, Bruton, Amphonic...) but haven’t found it.

Sounds like Isaac Hayes meets Bobbi Humphrey, Patrice Rushen and Wah Wah Watson and they knock up a quick tune with the help of an arranger’s big band.

During that era a lot of jazz fusion songs were being used (Ronnie Laws, LA Express,etc). But this song definitely sounds like production music. I'll start searching in KPM and Bruton as well(my guess it's from one of those or DeWolfe), if nobody knows what the song is.

Or go over catalogs of the prominent composers of that era, Hawkshaw, Dale, Bennett, Pearson,etc.

We gotta find this one.

When I said "quick tune", what I meant was the session artists were under pressure by the record companies. So they pulled off these amazing tracks almost by sight-reading, often after one or two takes.

As a bass enthusiast, big up Gary King, Abraham Laboriel Sr., Carole Kaye..

Thought it was Mansfield's 'Documentary Department' for a second, but alas no.

You seem to be close with De Wolfe. I went through the ones below but couldn't find one with the flute-timpani-wah-hammond combo.

Yeah I've went through a lot of Bruton, still came up with nothing. And I went through KPM during that era(1977 -1980).

I'm going to go through Chappell Music Archives next.

Is this tune in B flat? (my online keyboard seems to think so.)
Not a pro, but I think the bass plays 'pedal point' i.e. remains on a certain note (in this case the lower 5th, F) whilst the others jump around the tonic B flat, and the brass then sometimes resolves on F like it's the tonic. Funky. And the Hammond is crawling around the 4th (E flat) and major 3rd (D) like a funky spider.
Perhaps Dave Grusin, Alan Silvestri, Bob James were doing this kind of stuff in 1977-1980.

My guess is this is more than likely a KPM song that was selected by Madison Square Garden Network.

Yep, it's so close to KPM sound.

But it has a NY/Brooklyn vibe too. What about Vince Montana and The Salsoul Orchestra? Discogs and wiki have a lot of info. The guy was a disco funk genius.

Could it be a VM/KPM collaboration??

I'll search on the kpm website. You might be right about Salsoul Orchestra, it does have a very similar sound(I originally thought MFSB).
