How can you say a song doesn't need to be there? xD They wanted it there.

Green Day has been my favorite band since i was 6 years old(im now 17). Im thrilled that they're back! i think they're better than ever! granted i dnt love the whole album, Last nite on earth, is my favorite. i bought the exclusive edition at target for a couple xtra bucks and it has some great trax. i think they have provided the soundtrack to the Revolution i know in my heart is coming. cant wait till July 20th the 1 and only nite they're gonna be in my home town!

TumorAttitude 05-22-2009 01:54 PM

*notices that no one has the balls to review it, including me*

FaSho 05-23-2009 04:47 PM

I kind of did a few pages back...

PinkCigarette 05-26-2009 10:16 AM

I've grown tired of Green Day. I enjoyed Dookie and Nimrod and a few tracks from American Idiot but this CD is just American Idiot all over again. "Know Your Enemy" makes me want to kill myself.

Oh. Yeah, you did. Pree accurate.

I wonder if thirteen year old girls throughout time have always listened to crap cliche music.

jacklovezhimself 05-28-2009 09:34 AM

probably,
and if they didn't they were "weird".

adidasss 05-29-2009 09:01 AM

Um...it's kind of catchy and fun, but ultimately I think it's length works against it. And yes, it's very safe. Dunno...maybe I just can't tolerate this kind of music beyond the singles. It gets too samey after a while. Probably won't be listening to it much...:\

jacklovezhimself 05-29-2009 09:02 AM

I saw this band on The Colbert Report and they seemed like pretty cool people.
It's a shame I never got into their music.

lieasleep 05-29-2009 03:34 PM

listen to dookie, then stop because thats the only really good thing this band has ever done. this album is REAL boring.

I've listened to a few tracks, admittedly I haven't given the album much of a chance. Know Your Enemy was terrible Viva La whatever was catchy but both lyrically and musically reeked of teenage cliche's. To me, their music screams "I can do better then this but I won't because my teenage audience won't identify with it".

lieasleep 06-04-2009 08:45 PM

yes. to all of that.

FooFighting 06-05-2009 08:20 AM

good. but that stupid Know Your Enemy is repetitive like anything!

Rickenbacker 06-09-2009 04:35 PM

I think it's pretty alright.

FaSho 06-09-2009 07:49 PM

Murder City and 21 Guns are the best on the album for me.

Arya Stark 06-10-2009 06:54 PM

I just listened to "Know Your Enemy" while I was waiting to get my hair done. I've never heard such a repetitive song. It would have been so much better if they didn't have the same melody for the verse and the chorus. I was utterly disgusted...

Yeah I mean Green Day was good through Dookie, but I find it really sad that no one knows about they're older stuff. Is anyone alive other than me aware that Green Day used to be really good, back when they started? They've been around for 20 years, and released some great albums - 39/Smooth and Kerplunk. After this came Dookie, which is decent, but signaled their coming demise. Or one would think, if they were to listen to the music. Instead, they went from playing some good alternative punk stuff to playing **** and rocketed into stardom. Really quite depressing if you ask me. I hate that so many people talk **** about them without listening to their first 2 albums. I also hate that most of the people that like them are stupid little kids/teenagers that like their new stuff, which doesn't deserve a single sale. I like to go up to people with Green Day shirts/clothing/whatever other stuff they have and ask them about Kerplunk and 39/Smooth. Sadly, I have yet to find a single person that has heard of these albums :(. But that's the music industry isn't it? Good thing I have music banter to rant about these things and talk to people that have an actual sensible taste of music, or at least even think about what they like and why they like it.

TheCunningStunt 06-15-2009 08:20 AM

I loved Dookie and American Idiot. This one is brilliant as well, I really like the band and I think the new album is good.

GuitarMan 06-16-2009 07:20 AM

This album really did nothing for me. I don't outright hate it, it's just mediocre in general. The only song that really stood out for me was 21 Guns almost exclusively due to the vocals. The rest just sounded like bland pop-punk just like American Idiot.

I'll have to go review my cd collection as it's been a while since I've listened to anything Green Day other than Dookie (still my favorite album), but I remember liking Kerplunk. I also remember being thoroughly disappointed when Insomniac came out and it's been all downhill from there.

JJJ567 06-17-2009 02:19 AM

I haven't bothered listening to the whole thing. It sounds way too overblown. I'm probably the minority (no pun, haha) in that I actually enjoyed American Idiot, but I really didn't want them to try to outdo it like they obviously tried to do with this album.

Also, Insomniac is a good album. I can't understand why it's so unappreciated.

AshleighJane 06-17-2009 07:04 AM

i downloaded the album and to me i think it is pitiful compared to the old green day.. i seriously was about to cry when i heard it
that sad part is i love green day... but they should not have made a comeback

i agree that more people need to listen to 39/Smooth and Kerplunk, but i see all their albums as well done. tbh, i think Dookie is the least impressive of their work, i say Nimrod is where they really hit the mark. hell, even Warning had some really good moments, despite being a little more stripped down than their usual sound.

i don't think Green Day sold out or got worse as they went on, i just see it as them evolving and trying new things. yeah, that's gonna turn some people off of their sound, but hell, it's their music.

FaSho 06-17-2009 11:13 AM

Yeah the whole "Dookie was great, but the only worthy green day album" is getting tiresome. Nimrod was much better, as was Kerplunk, and unliek most peopel I really liked warning. I would rank them like this:
1.Nimrod
2.Kerplunk
3.Warning
4.Dookie
5.American Idiot
6.1,039 blahblahblah

I didn't include 21st because I really have yet to listen to it enough to make a decision.

Raust 06-17-2009 10:55 PM

I bought it a week ago. I thought it to be very good. Not as good as there previous, but a very good effort.

moonlight 06-21-2009 05:44 PM

I really enjoyed listening to it, which is why I listen to music I guess. :)

siamesedream 07-02-2009 01:50 AM

I've always enjoyed Green Day's stuff for what it is - good pop rock songwriting that's guaranteed to be full of catchy hooks.

This album was the first of them all that had to grow on me. Even after multiple listens, I'd say it's still my least favorite of their albums as a whole. Almost the entire middle section from "East Jesus Nowhere" to "The Static Age" seems like filler to me. If they trimmed some of the fat this could have been a better record, but considering this took 5 years I'm really not impressed.

For the record I'm one of the few longtime Green Day fans that really enjoyed American Idiot, and this album just seems to be obviously trying so hard to recreate that whole vibe. Instead it comes off as stale and repetitive.

TumorAttitude 07-25-2009 12:15 AM

I saw them live two days ago. They played for three hours. Brilliantly. Billie ran up and down the stage making fun of Christianity. Tre' came out in a pink bunnysuit before they played and danced around.
IT WAS THE BEST IT WAS SO AWESOME I HAVE NEW WILL TO LIVE NO SARCASM

Double X 07-25-2009 09:47 PM

Probably among their best work, but I won't buy it because it sucks.

zeppy111 07-26-2009 01:19 AM

It took me 3 seperate sessions of concentrated time, to get through the whole album. Not a good sign... I did enjoy 21 Guns but the rest was not up my street, some of the songs in the middle sounded like something straight off American Idiot too.

My vote goes to poor, as I am not a greenday fan, but I really did enjoy Nimrod, needless to say this album was just a let down for me.

storymilo 07-27-2009 02:44 AM

Short Review

My rating is 6/10. Compare this to American Idiot at 7.5/10, Dookie at 7.5/10, and Nimrod at 5/10.

It is a nice album, but it seems kind of like an attemmpt to recreate the same feel of American Idiot, without as much success. I wish they had given the story of the album more structure, as that was one of the things I liked most about American Idiot. One thing I noticed is more reliance on Billie Joe Armstrong's powerful voice and more meaningful lyrics than in previous Green Day work, which I think may be a step forward from American Idiot just as that was a step forward from the album's that came before it. Green Day is contining to evolve from their punk roots, and becoming more relevant than ever. We will have to wait and see just how long they can continue, before fizzling out. But remember that most bands of their era are forgotten nowadays, while Green Day have continued to produce fine quality music.

What disappointed me most about the album, is that after 5 years of waiting, all they came up with was half a story, a few great songs, and then some material that seemed mostly intended to fill out the album. Unlike in other work by them, where each and every song on the album seemed to have a meaning, there are tracks that just don't compare with the fine points on the album. An example would be [B]Know Your Enemy[B], probably the most played song off the album on the radio. The lyrics are nothing special, and the tune is a boring one repeated for most of the song. It's a song that doesn't seem to add much to the album for me.

There are still points where I sit up and say, "This is why I listen to Green Day". The highlights to me are the epic title track at the beginning and the song East Jesus Nowhere, which I believe holds the best lyrics of the bunch. Peacemaker brings in some spanish tinged guitar, and Viva la Gloria! has a very cool intro containing only Armstrong's voice and some accompianing piano. I think these are some of the songs showing what Green Day may be looking at in the future, incorporating more styles and influences into their songs. I for one am, while slightly dissapointed, intrigued by what the album may mean for future Green Day work.

Bottom Line: Get it for a Green Day collection, but don't expect the wonders that should have come out of a five year wait.

immetoday 07-27-2009 11:26 AM

i love song of the century, 21st century breakdown, viva la gloria, east jesus nowhere and 21 guns. know your enemy is good but way over played which ruins the song. all the other songs werent that great

storymilo 07-27-2009 05:45 PM

immetoday I completely agree with the exception that Know Your Enemy really is not good, maybe average at best, and Peacemaker is not completely horrible.
