I lost even more respect for Green Day with this album. The songs don't have any compositional value, and the guitar parts seem like they were written by two year olds. I can't promote boring, stale music. It's not what the world needs right now.

=\ Youthought that about the entire album?

Antonio 08-12-2009 12:28 AM

like i said before, not their best effort, but still something i thoroughly enjoyed.

What do you mean by that? You think they didn't try to make a good album?

J.S.3otR 08-12-2009 10:34 PM

extremely disappointing. and its not like they were always this bad. Warning is a good album and Dookie is ok too, but this crap? for real? it sounds like they dont care about the quality of their music anymore, they just want money so billy joe can afford to put some more guyliner on.

in musical terms... chord progressions and instrument parts sound like they were written in about 30 seconds by a first grader. its so boring i almost threw myself off a cliff for listening to the whole album.

HORRIBLE.

HORRIBLE.

You know, a lot of hardcore GD fans hate Warning.

Just saying.

What I've heard from it is terrible

Is anyone alive other than me aware that Green Day used to be really good, back when they started? They've been around for 20 years, and released some great albums - 39/Smooth and Kerplunk. After this came Dookie, which is decent, but signaled their coming demise. Or one would think, if they were to listen to the music. Instead, they went from playing some good alternative punk stuff to playing **** and rocketed into stardom. Really quite depressing if you ask me. I hate that so many people talk **** about them without listening to their first 2 albums. I also hate that most of the people that like them are stupid little kids/teenagers that like their new stuff, which doesn't deserve a single sale. I like to go up to people with Green Day shirts/clothing/whatever other stuff they have and ask them about Kerplunk and 39/Smooth. Sadly, I have yet to find a single person that has heard of these albums :(. But that's the music industry isn't it? Good thing I have music banter to rant about these things and talk to people that have an actual sensible taste of music, or at least even think about what they like and why they like it.

Goddamn, this brings back memories. No more than 7 or 8 years old, sitting in the back seat of a minivan on a family road trip, asking my sister to borrow her Kerplunk! cassette, listening to it front to back multiple times... not really knowing- or caring- who the band was, just digging the music. Good ****.

jb.is.a.machine 09-22-2009 11:08 PM

average.

justinlove05 09-30-2009 06:40 PM

Where did they go wrong. Dookie was by far their best album

Antonio 09-30-2009 10:20 PM

i'm more partial to Nimrod myself, but everyone's got their opinion i guess

i love Warning, a real stripped down sound in their musical evolution. my least favorites are Kerplunk and Insomniac, they just seemed to lack an overall direction and it seems that some songs are just there as filler. not saying they're all bad though, there's really good stuff in all of their albums.

Arya Stark 09-30-2009 10:23 PM

You think so?

I didn't start liking them until American Idiot.

Isn't that weird?

Antonio 09-30-2009 10:34 PM

nah, i'm pretty certain different people gravitate towards different eras of their music. plus it's a real change in their sound, so it's normal some new fans'd be made who would gravitate to that and not so much the stuff beforehand, as well as fans of Dookie who aren't too partial to the earlier stuff.

also, i just wanna respond to this post:

not saying that they didn't try; i know they did. just that not all of the pieces fell into the right place for this one if you catch my drift. like some oppurtunities in songs to say, add a new melody/speed up the music/slow down the music or do something different were passed up.

then again, this is my point of view.

Arya Stark 09-30-2009 10:43 PM

You're really late answering all of this. xD

Antonio 09-30-2009 10:51 PM

yeah, but it's late over here and i just woke up.

Arya Stark 10-01-2009 09:42 AM

No I mean, I said all of that a long time ago. Hahaha.

Antonio 10-01-2009 12:01 PM

yeah, wanted to tie up some loose ends ;)

Arya Stark 10-01-2009 01:34 PM

Haha, it happens.

Are they making the musical out of this album or American Idiot?

I forgot.

Antonio 10-01-2009 01:42 PM

i think it's American Idiot, but i could be mistaken.

Arya Stark 10-01-2009 01:44 PM

I think it is as well. I feel like the story for this album is a little bit stronger, but that could just be me.

Phillyboy 11-01-2009 10:35 PM

Waaah! Waaaah! Green Day isn't putting out the same album they did 15 years ago. Wah Wah! It obviously isn't there greatest record, but they are still putting out good music.

But shame on them for trying to make music different from what they did in the 90's. Shame shame shame.

Arya Stark 11-02-2009 09:18 AM

So you're saying that bands have to make the same music all of the time?
That's ignorant and bland, honestly.
I would easily get tired of Green Day if every album was the same.
Like I said earlier, they're growing up.
They're exploring newer sounds.

I think he was being sarcastic. But I'm not really sure :p:

Anyways I thought the album was alright. Enjoyable but distinctly average.

Way to totally miss his point.

It was sarcasm, obviously. If I was actually upset about them pursuing new musical directions do you honestly think I would write WAAAH! WAAAH! ?

Arya Stark 11-02-2009 08:37 PM

I was a little throw off. I thought you were being sarcastic at the beginning.
I can't be expected to read sarcasm everytime.
Just say what you think.

Anyways, I haven't listened to this album in a while, but I love it to death.

So do I, I have yet to dislike a Green Day album. But cmon it was an obvious rip on the GD haters. I have always loved the band and there side projects. This current album is not perfet, but I still love 'em.

Arya Stark 11-03-2009 09:58 AM

Ah, yeah.
I'm sure there's an album by them that I dislike.
I don't know, they're one of those bands for me that for their past work, I don't know them by album.
I know a lot of specific songs, just not where they're from. ^_^

storymilo 11-03-2009 10:17 AM

AwwSugar have you listened to Dookie? It's most people's including mine favorite Green Day album, so if you haven't heard it you should check it out and see if you like it.

Arya Stark 11-03-2009 11:46 AM

I've heard all of the albums.
Yeah I like it.

smith729 11-21-2009 07:41 AM

Poor. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much. I didn't like American idiot, and although I had a vague hope that they'd go back to the days of Dookie, I never really imagined that they would. Dissapointing.

Arya Stark 11-28-2009 08:31 PM

You think this album is like Dookie?

Rickenbacker 11-28-2009 08:35 PM

No, he's saying that he had fleeting hope that this album would be a return to form, but really he knew that it wasn't going to be. That's why he said he wasn't expecting much.

FaSho 11-28-2009 08:39 PM

Dookie's not even their best album <.<

Arya Stark 11-28-2009 08:52 PM

Mm, my fault.
I feel like they need another new album. xD

jacklovezhimself 12-10-2009 05:19 PM

Has anyone ever noticed the similarity in the chorus of "21 guns" and "All the Young Dudes"?

TumorAttitude 12-10-2009 05:21 PM

WTF, you're right, but I think its a common chord progression. I don't think its a straight out rip.

jacklovezhimself 12-10-2009 05:22 PM

It's not just the chord progression though...
it's the exact same vocal melody...
