Uhm, is this thread just going to sit here until it comes out?

Rainard Jalen 03-02-2009 02:10 PM

Woah. Green Day have a new album coming out. MAJOR meh.

More to the point, is it just me or does the track listing sound incredibly pretentious? Act 1, 2 and 3? What do they think they're writing, a bleedin' opera?

Little can be more frustrating than a band losing sight of what they're good at and trying to be what they're clearly not.

Yes.

Anyways, I have a fairly neutral opinion of Green Day, and I will be hearing this album when it is released.

FaSho 03-02-2009 02:26 PM

American Idiot's more melodic tracks were pretty good, so that's what I'm hoping for with this album, not some political anthemy sh*t.

To be fair they're only following the zeitgeist (Christ I hate myself for using the word). Coldplay's bombastic ballads were nothing spectacular but they still used a fucking Delacroix for the cover art. Bands today are looking for creative ways to bolster their self-image (except make better music).

Lies.

FaSho 03-03-2009 06:23 PM

First clear your mind of all negative Green Day thoughts, then listen to Homecoming, then apoligize for calling me a liar and beg for forgiveness. :D

jacklovezhimself 03-03-2009 07:20 PM

I'm looking for some of their good old shit. I don't want this to be a re-run of American Idiot with a bunch of winey little brats screaming and all that.

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 03-03-2009 07:52 PM

blink 182 are getting back together and green day are releasing a new album. what a great year.

Let's just ignore all the gret bands releasing albums this year, one of which being Mastodon :thumb:

Double X 03-03-2009 08:52 PM

I'm the only one who voted. I'm just that good.

:D

jacklovezhimself 03-04-2009 09:10 AM

ahahahaha.
For some reason I have a feeling it'll be far from awesome.

oh joy, could it possibly get any better? blink AND greenday. i knew 2009 would be a special year, but now all of a sudden it seems that music is finally worth listening to again. hooray. major hip hip hooray. and one for luck: hip, hip hooray.

jacklovezhimself 03-05-2009 04:41 PM

Hahaha
would it be possible to be a little more sarcastic.

TumorAttitude 03-05-2009 08:44 PM

I don't care. "American Idiot" was good except for two singles, including the title track. This album should be interesting. I'm not counting on it being spectacular OR awful....Yah, the melodic tracks were good, and Green Day did have unpunkish melodic tracks on other albums, even one on "Dookie" that I didn't hear many people complaining about.

Faith No More is gonna tour. *woo*

Alfred 03-05-2009 09:04 PM

I actually have high hopes for this album.

CaseNumber:825 03-06-2009 08:04 AM

Oh joyous occasion
We are being presented with a new Green Day album..... and so this year I can spend the majority of my bus journey's, time at college and time around town seeing random 13 year olds covered with various Green Day merchandise

I make count them this year.... just to kill time

I reckon Claire's Accessories is going to be packed full of merchandise.... I'll probably spot them all in there........

Urgh that's gonna make walking past that shop to get to Waterstones extremely hazardous

First New Found Glory then Green Day.......Then Blink 182 Reunite. What the hell is going on? Poor economy good for alternative? The rise was early 90's when the economy was in the ****ter last time. Interesting theory.

CartelzWW 03-12-2009 09:13 PM

Not that I'm complaining, just hope they make it a little more modern. I'm a fan of NFG's latest. Glad they are doing well.

Johnest 03-12-2009 09:15 PM

Schredds 03-29-2009 08:20 AM

Greenday, a while back, said they would never let a record label dictate how they were going to write music, what they have to wear and theyre image, and they did. Im my opinion once this happened they started down hill, not only because their music isnt as good as it once was but now their just like a hundered other band running around with makeup on and dressed in black and all of that ****, its weak. I still and always will enjoy Dookie, Insomniac, and even Nimrod was good, but from there on Im not a fan of their music.

nathanfurniss 04-01-2009 05:01 PM

Hmmm...

Think it's going to ride above American idiot?

FaSho 04-02-2009 02:51 PM

Definatley.

Alfred 04-02-2009 03:25 PM

Oh cool, they're bashing Christianity. How original.

FaSho 04-02-2009 03:27 PM

I think you may be using the term bashing too lightly broseph,

Alfred 04-02-2009 03:33 PM

Bands bashing religion is a big turn-off for me, because being religious myself, I find it difficult to listen to music that clearly insults me or what I believe in. I'm not saying that bands shouldn't have that right, of course they should, it's their music and their beliefs.

A lot of that type of stuff has been what's kept me from listening to a lot of bands.

Anyways, how am I using the term lightly? Is it a lot more serious than that?

FaSho 04-03-2009 01:14 PM

Wht bands specifically?

Anyway, I just mean that if you're going strictly by the song titles on the album, they may not neccasarily saying anything bad about christianity. For instance, American Idiot definatley commented on religion, but it didn't really say anything negative.

Alfred 04-03-2009 02:01 PM

Yeah, but from what Rolling Stone said, that East Jesus or whatever the song is called is a big rant about religion.

Schredds 04-16-2009 03:39 PM

I heard the first single, Know Your Enemy, on the radio today, I dont know if the whole record is gonna sound like that but if it does I think its time for them to hang up the gloves and call 'er quits, I though it was a terrible song.

Violent & Funky 04-16-2009 03:43 PM

'Know Your Enemy' is an awesome song... by Rage Against the Machine...

Of course thats a good song, but Im not talking about that song, Im talking about the song Know Your Enemy by Greenday off their new album, which this entire thread is about, and the song is terrible.
