I would disagree with that fact.
I mean from a musical perspective, yes she is lacking. But she'll bring a totally different perspective to it. It's not like any of the other judges make the show much more respectable anyways.

But atleast the other judges had a background in music. They at the very least know what will be sellable. I just think they brought Ellen on because she's a celebrity.

Or any other "celebrity judge" they may have had in the past. None of them really have any credibility when it comes to scouting musical talents. Especially Ellen Degeneres.

I think when she's judging she'll give an "average person's" opinion, like what someone who doesn't know much about music would think (which is most of America). She'll kind of be the more relatable judge. I don't know....I just love Ellen. :P

To whoever's singing on stage trying to make years of hard work in the industry become a reality, an 'average person's' opinion isn't going to mean squat in comparison to the other judges'.

But who are the ones that will eventually be buying their music? The average person. So that's always a good perspective to have IMO.

Ellen's opinion alone does NOT represent the potential consumers who will be buying the music. The experienced professionals' opinions do because they have done the research and seen the results.

I agree - they should have chosen someone with SOME sort of musical background. I would never in a million years think of Ellen being a judge on American Idol before she was chosen, but I guess we'll just have to see what happens.
