There we go! I imagine the beatles had all that in the US. It seems like the press here kinda dissed the Beach Boys.

I think almost all of the later Beach Boys albums were received much more warmly in the UK. Most of the American fans seem to like them for the pre-Pet Sounds nostalgia factor. Fantastic albums like Surf's Up are forgotten.

Maybe, (The Monkees vs The Partridge Family)?
I remember dancing around to I Saw Her Standing There as a young pup when my mom brought home the Please Please Me album. No one in our house was interested in The Beach Boys, but it was all over the radio(so I got to fill my ears).I am a long time fan of both groups and don't think I am up to picking who was more creative. Both helped to shape the direction of popular music. They pushed each other and that always helps innovation. As I get older I seem drawn to records like Friends, Sunflower, Holland and yes the highly debated Carl & The Passions "So Tough". I know this reflects more on me and my life than the music itself. I am mystified to see The Byrds and the Monkees in the same sentence, please explain if you would.

I wasn't giving the Monkees very much credit or recognition in the post you quoted me in. I've since then explored their music more in depth. And I have to say that they have some good songs. And that they were a good band as well.

They were also the top-selling group in the UK for the fourth quarter of '66.
In the US Herb Alpert sold 13 million recordings, outselling the Beatles in 1966.

The Monkees was a fun TV show and they had some really good tunes and Mike had a solid post Monkees career.Yet, The Byrds are one of the great musical outfits of all time.In my mind they are just behind The Beatles and Beach Boys as some of the important building blocks in the popular music canon. They did not sell like other bands but their imprint is deep and long reaching.

Agreed. Yet another great band/musician starting with a B. Beatles, Beach Boys, Byrds, Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, Barenaked Ladies...
