Really tough call. I'm only 14, but I love '40s-'70s music, anthese two are my favourites. I thank I'd have to say I enjoy listening to The Beatles more, but whenever I see a comparison/poll, I'm always pulling for the Boys. So who knows.
By the way, DriveYourCarDownToTheSea, I love your comparisons!

Where did he say it wasn't true? Not that I don't believe you, I'm just curious. From what I now understand is that he's confirmed and denied the rumor over the years. Thanks for the great song comparisons too, by the way.
At around the 2:20 mark:

I've also seen at least one other interview where he says the same thing.

EDIT: At the beginning of this earlier interview he also infers that he was born that way:

Interesting. Hopefully science will someday find a cure for his deafness. Then he could finally hear what stereo sounds like.

Apologies for the act of necromancy. But I think it is important to recognize that neither group accomplished what they did on their own. Most of these totem pole albums you are all barking at could never have been possible if the "geniuses" had to do the work themselves.

And before you say that it would not be possible.. Many artists have proven the ability to write/compose, produce, record, mix, and master their work as a pure solo project. Hell, I do that myself. It is very possible and both The Beatles and Beach Boys just did not have the time if they had wanted to try it in their 1960s heydays without sacrificing other components of their careers and lifestyles.

Default no comparison

one was a primarily vocal group accompanied by, bass, organ, light percussion, and light guitar arranged(ambient beach pop) written by one person (beach boys)

the other was composed of drums, bass, guitars, and studio additions written by multiple songwriters (beatles)

I always thought that The Beatles had a longer impact in the US, longer than the UK where it seem they to became one of the following three: liked but a distant memory, old hat and indifferent, or even worse hated.

Wasn't there also a poll taken to see who British audiences were listening to most around the time of both band's peak, and the Beach Boys were named their favorite? I've tried finding the poll before without much luck, but I've heard it cited a couple times here and there.

That was the New Musical Express annual reader's poll for 1966. The Beach Boys were on top following the commercial and critical success of Pet Sounds (#2 on the album chart), God Only Knows (#2 on the singles chart), and Good Vibrations (#1 on the singles chart). They were also the top-selling group in the UK for the fourth quarter of '66.
