I like Pet Sounds better then any Beatles album, however I like any Beatles album (post-Help) better than the rest of the Beach Boys stuff (with the exception of a few gems like Good Vibrations.)

I love the Beatles and love the beach boys. No contest for me.

Beach Boys. The Beatles aren't for me.

I think it's most important to remember they were both great !
I play both keys and guitar , i can tell you that from a musical standpoint
they were both brilliant , but when you get right down to it The Beach Boys
definitely had some more complex arrangements both musically and vocally .
That is not to say that complexity makes something better , it is sort of pointless to make competition out of art .. All I am saying is that if you really want to be humbled as a musician/band go out and try doing a few Beach Boys tunes and make them sound good . It is much easier to do that with Beatles
songs as a whole , but let's face it both of these bands were in a class that
only the two of them could occupy . Both are equally responsible for taking pop/rock music and making people realize that it wasn't just kids music , but rather art.

A person can not be great without the help of others. All are great in his own field. So i think both are great in their own field ,no controversy is necessary in this case.

Although I'm more a Beatles fan than Beach Boys fan, I completely agree with this.

This is a tough one but for the long run I would go with the Beatles but as I move along the road of pop music I'm discovering hidden Beach Boy gems like Sunflower and Surf's Up

They are both influential legends. Try this, listen to the following songs back to back. Don't even try to pick which are better, just listen to how good they both sound right after each other:

Across The Universe-Surf's Up (Brian piano solo version)

In My Life-God Only Knows

Because-Can't Wait Too Long

Mother Nature's Son-Add Some Music To Your Day

Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey-It's About Time

All You Need Is Love-Wouldn't It Be Nice

And there are countless others. Give it a try and see what you think
