and thank god she can sing and we can ignore that some of the lyrics on ultraviolence are so so cringeworthy (I'm looking at you brooklyn baby) |

Ultraviolence is a great song tho. |

a great satirical look at the "hipster" trend |
Yeah, I think some of her lyrics are okay too. If you take them 100% seriously, then you probably won't like them, but I think there is more to it than just saying corny rubbish.
I think if she wasn't such a big star and just a random chick who came out with "Ultraviolence" I highly doubt people would be going round calling the album trash. It's far from it. And even if you dislike her or think her music is whatever, I can't fathom how anyone would hate it. |
After eagerly anticipating this and searching for leaks every day, I've still not listened to it despite having it for over a week.
I will listen to it over the weekend and report back. I heard the lead single and thought it was OK but the hook was shit. |
When Lana goes in on "Cola" my mind frazzles for a moment and there is only joy.

"Blue jeans, white shirt Walked into the room you know you made my eyes burn It was like, James Dean, for sure You're so fresh to death and sick as ca-cancer You were sorta punk rock, I grew up on hip hop But you fit me better than my favourite sweater, and I know That love is mean, and love hurts But I still remember that day we met in December, oh baby!" She has a wonderful voice that carries the lines very well and kind of fits the style. I can see how people see it as chav art, but it's still beuatiful chav art. |
The lyrics are fully shit to be honest, but it doesn't really bother me.
|
I've listened to her album over and over. I love it. If you read some of the reviews people have actually broken down what hers songs mean and you then realise it's not as cheesy as you might think.
|
She can't sing a note but she's bathed in star power and talent. "Ultraviolence" is amazing.

She is a very good singer, I have seen her perform awesome vocals in live videos. She just doesn't always seem to care or be in the right frame of mind. She looked pretty NOT sober during her Glastonbury performance.
But that made it even more interesting for me. |

This might be it (and the other parts)

Pardon me, non-pop guy coming through, but I feel like chipping in.
There's something about her that I kinda like. I'm trying to put a genre to her I've been told indie, blues, jazz, pop, 70s revival. In any case, I'm intrigued and want to look into it. I pretty much never listen to mainstream music cause most of them are forgettable "party" songs. Maybe it's because she reminds me of Delain, which I already like for years. The sound is quite different but the mood is about the same. |
Lana wearing a Rolling Stone cover featuring the lovely Twin Peaks ladies? Call it an avatar.
|
I love Lana del ray. My favorite song of her is young and beautiful. It's one of the better ones compared to that one but the music video is still wierd...
|
I'm a big fan of Lana Del Rey. You should check out her unreleased stuff, it's on YouTube.
Right now my favourite song of Born To Die is either Blue Jeans or Without You. And from Ultraviolence i love Florida Kilos and Sad Girl Sometimes her live performances aren't that good. I guess it's because she gets very nervous before/during her live performances. But that's what makes her performances unique |
Forum rule 591.5 states quite clearly: If spammers are only here to praise Lana Del Rey, Goofle will allow it.

still trying to figure out how everything works here |
How amazing is this song though:
|
i know, i love it!
how do you feel about 'Serial Killer' it's not like the usual songs of her but i think it's good |
|
i like it!
is there a version of ultraviolence available with the radio version of west coast on it? i mean in your country? cause i got the digipack deluxe version of ultraviolence and there's west coast and west coast (radio edit) on it but i heared that it is not available in every country |
In My Opinion Born To Die had more variety of music styles than in Ultraviolence. This is just my opinion. Ultraviolence really sound depressing, while in Born To Die, it had all types of moods.

NME News Lana Del Rey working with Mark Ronson on new album | NME.COM
Oh I can get with this. Go full on radio pop Lana. It would be interesting to hear. |
I would have thought the album would be finished by now and released this summer.
Looking forward to it anyway. |
Honeymoon is out, anyone heard it yet? There are a couple dull tracks at the start but I'm loving the singles. By track 6 I realised I had a shiit copy so I'm gonna go and nick another one.
High hopes for this though. |
Yeah same happened to me. I got a FLAC now though.
Good stuff, but her worst album (under the Lana Del Rey name at least) based on initial impressions. |
So I got drunk last night and put on some Lana Del Rey playlist while playing Dark Souls 2. Good music, really love her voice and the general vibe of her music, although I can't say I listened much to the lyrics. It would be interesting to see her do a straight trip hop album in the vein of Portishead.
|
Yes, I'd agree with that Pete. Another thing I'd like to see her do is an Americana/Alt-Country album.
|
I would put in third place with Ultraviolence being first....still very good and very "Lana"
highlights for me are easily High On The Beach, Art Deco, Music To Watch Boys To, 24 and Terrence Loves You |
I confess she won me over.
|
......reeeeaaaallllyyyyy?
|
Really.
|
i seriously suggest going back and listening to Ultraviolence

I just can't get into this at all. High By The Beach and Freak are great, but everything else is just too dull and slow.
Seriously, what happened to her beats? They're absent from half the album. |
I was kind of hoping Lana Del Rey would be like when I was getting into sushi and I just told my more knowledgeable friends to order whatever they liked but not tell me what was in it. Fortunately when I discovered it contained ingredients I wouldn't normally eat under different circumstances I was able to look past that and just remember the good times of trying it at the beginning.
While listening to a random mix on YouTube while drunk and trying not to die in Dark Souls is a bit different to the sushi experiment, I can't say I'm getting the same results now that I have the albums and have been listening to them on and off for a few days. |
