The Wind Cries Mary

Castles Made Of Sand

ElephantSack 06-11-2009 05:43 PM

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this song yet, and I'm not sure how good the audio is, but I think that it's worth sharing.

Flower Child 06-19-2009 08:49 AM

I wish I had a nickel for everytime somebody said Purple Haze on here so far. haha.

Antonio: Have you ever tried out the acoustic version of Angel? I seem to like it even better.

Wayfarer: Electric Ladyland has always been in my top five. The whole album is just perfect. Love that soft side of Jimi's music. Good choice

Neapolitan: Wind Cries Mary is one of my favorites too. The lyrics just blow me away. You can just picture everything he singing about so clearly in your head.

Elephant Sack: I can tell you know your Jimi Hendrix. That is agreat pick. Would that have not been awesome to actually be there at Woodstock and witness this greatness?

ElephantSack 06-21-2009 09:25 AM

Yeah, everybody who played on the third day must have been ****ting themselves, because they knew that Hendrix was opening.

dancooke 06-21-2009 11:36 AM

I really like burning of the midnight lamp from electric ladyland he s written so many songs i like it s hard to say

JKSmith 06-22-2009 08:03 PM

tbh, both versions are great, but i like the electric version better. idk, the tone of Jimi's guitar on that seems to really take me on a journey. i really feel like i'm floating on air, so to speak.

Kool_Dude_HaMeR 06-23-2009 05:50 AM

Long Hot Summer Night
and Purple Haze of course, although sometimes I really can't stand it (depends on my soberness).

How bout everything he ever played?

storymilo 09-07-2009 02:06 PM

Little Wing is the best in my opinion, followed by Machine Gun.

jehkilyde 09-09-2009 10:26 PM

Castles Made of Sand and Little Wing but nothing beats the Woodstock recording of Voodoo Child + Slight Return.. or whatever.

storymilo 09-10-2009 01:48 PM

Little Wing and Machine Gun are my favorites.

Janszoon 09-16-2009 09:22 PM

What??? please run that past me again?? Who mentioned Reggae?

Thrice Purple Haze...Voodoo Child

No you have got me there,i have at least 9 albums by Jimi and not on one of them is a track called voodoo child.I have Voodoo chile and even Voodoo chile(slight return).Sorry to be so pedantic! LoL!!

Still it's better than some one who once asked me to tape Voodoo chile for them, pronouncing chile as chilly!!! :yikes:

Voodoo Chile is a typo. It's actually supposed to be Voodoo Child :stupid:

no, if you check all the liner notes and album listings it IS 'Voodoo Chile' it's spelled phonetically. Hendrix didn't enunciate the D at the end of the word so they spelled it the way he sang it.

or did you really think no one would have noticed a typo on one of his most famous tracks for 40 years? :usehead:

seriously though, Hendrix might have been a burn out but he wasn't a moron, he knew how to spell the word child if he wanted to use it.

Little wing: has anyone heard the version Clapton did with Sheryl crow and saxaphonist Dave sanborn. Sax solo is ****ing unbeliveable.

the sax solo might be unbelievable (if you've never watched the intro to Saturday Night Live) but the rest of the cover is... just... what the fucking fuck?!?!?!?1

i had no idea they were actually playing the song until they started singing it. i figured it was a medley until later on into the 7 minute clip. Crow seems out of place but not nearly as bad as that chugging riff they keep bringing back - what the hell? have they not listened to the original since the 70s? i understand some people want to put their own twist on their covers but that was just crap.

for those wondering
