Little Wing for sure, but Red House is good too.
Can You See Me
Red House
Wait Until Tomorrow Gypsy Eyes Tiltle #3 |
Of course Vodoo Child and Purple Haze are given, but a few months ago I heard Hey Joe om a TV retrospective, it's such a beautiful song -- melancholic somehow. One of my favourites!
Favourite Experience song is Little Wing
Favourite Gypsys song is We Gotta Live Together Favourite Solo song is Once I Had A Woman |
1. Red House
2. Like A Rolling Stone |
Purple Haze
Machine Gun.
Red House.
purple haze
has some of the best lyrics ever |
Voodoo Child (Slight Return) is my pick for the best Hendrix song.

Castles Made of Sand
Jimi Hendrix
Voodoo Child (Slight Return)
Purple Haze :)
My favorite would be Voodoo Child. Purple Haze and Spanish Castle Magic are good songs, too. Personally, I think all of his songs sound pretty much the same, but he's a legendary (left-handed) guitarist, so I'm not saying he's "bad".
I dont even have to give it a second thought "LITTLE WING" is my favorite song of Hendrix and anyone ever..period. To me the melodic chord structure and dreamy sound along with the groovy lyrics give it such a surreal sound that nothing can ever compare to it. I learned the song was written about a place close to where Hendrix was from and he would visit there whenever he got the chance. I've heard this songs influence in several popular hit songs through the years and it's no doubt Hendrix most ingenius pieces of work he ever put together. I'll post some of the songs below that to me are heavily Hendrix inspired chord and sound wise.
There are so many, but I would find it particularly difficult to choose between All Along the Watchtower, Voodoo Chile and Fire. I wish he was still alive, along with Phil Lynott.
Today would have been Jimi's 70th birthday. Hard to believe he was only 27 when he left this earth. What an impressive body of work he produced in such a short time and at such a young age.
I can't say I have a favorite song of his though. There are just so many incredibly great ones to choose from, I find it impossible to pick just one of them. |
Castles Made of Sand....yep.
Quote:
And, yes, Little Wing is my absolutely favorite song of his, and even one of my very favorite songs of all time. |
^^ Ditto.
Little Wing has a permanent little nest in my brain. |
Fire
Mine's gotta be Fire...short and sweet (well that's kinda like most of them I guess!)
"Purple Haze" with "The Wind Cries Mary" being a close second.
Castles made of sand/machine gun
Castles for the "softer" Jimi Hendrix. It narrowly beat out little wing, mostly because I absolutley love the lyrics on castles made of sand. Machine gun is an amazing jam that sends chills up my spine. |
Hard to pick one, but I have to go with an Epic:
1983... A Merman I Should Turn To Be The Jimi Hendrix Experience - 1983 ... (A Merman I Should Turn To Be) [Pt. 1] - YouTube The Jimi Hendrix Experience: 1983 (A Merman I Should Turn To Be) Part 2 - YouTube |

Very hard to choose just one. Too hard really. That said, I do prefer his blues/acoustic stuff, so I'm going:
Definitely would be Purple Haze, or Fire.
My favorite is Fire - a great hard-rocking, up-tempo tune. And I love Alice Cooper´s cover of Fire!
Other great Jimi Hendrix songs are Purple Haze, Voodoo Child (Slight Return), Still Raining Still Dreaming, Little Wing, All Along the Watchtower, Crosstown Traffic, May This Be Love and Little Miss Strange. |
I hear many here picking well-known classics like Purple Haze,Hey Joe,Little Wing(I think this song is overrated when it comes to Jimi's Best Songs though tbh),All Along the Watchtower,Voodoo Child etc....and those are great songs...but I'd like to mention some of the songs that aren't as popular which are favorites of mine
Here's a list of my favorites(it will most likely be long) Drifting Somewhere(New Restored Version from People,Hell & Angels...tho the butchered dubbed over version of the 70s ain't half bad either) Rainy Day,Dream Away(best Rain song ever nuff said...most chilling song ever) Lower Alcatraz Nine to the Universe Mr.Bad Luck Gloria(cover song) Valleys of Neptune Third Stone from the Sun Castles Made of Sand My Friend Crash Landing Psycho Burning of the Midnight Lamp Peace in Mississippi Trash Man |
Machine Gun is def my favorite.
Very hard to choose just one but Red House is pretty special.
Too difficult to answer with just one, but I guess if I had to, it'd be "Third Stone From The Sun". I always thought it'd make for a good hip-hop sample.
Either "If 6 Was 9" or "1983...(A Merman I Should Turn to Be)"
