What a pretentious, self-indulgent, and completely overrated band. Nearly all their songs are killed, no, not killed, viciously murdered by their "experimental" and "complex" wank. Awful, awful, band.

Yeah, cause experiemental and complex is very bad, classical music sucks because its complex, and jazz sucks because its experiemental, Frank Zappa really sucks ass because he experiements too much and trys to hard to be complex, yeah, bands are not to meant to do something new, Rock N Roll should always be the same predictible crap, 2 chord riffs, repetitive chorus and all in less than 2 minutes...Music began with punk rock.

Merkaba 11-06-2005 01:06 AM

I semi agree with him, and he never said that experimentation was bad, he merely said the Mars Volta's experimentation was bad.

I don't like them eather, their sound is too "tangy" for my liking.

That's not what I meant, and if you weren't trying so hard to be a condescending prick, you would've realized that.

Accipiter 11-06-2005 12:52 PM

Ooo, Mars Volta is great, but my favorite song still is The Widow. :D

Thank you.

I think they're great.

Eriatarka's my favourite song.

adidasss 11-23-2005 02:44 AM

so which album do you like better, i'm liking de-loused better at the moment, simply because it has more songs on it, let's face it, frances the mute only has 4 songs, the rest is improvisation and distortion or static.....one thing that is killing me, i remembered they performed in Croatia some 2 years ago, before frances the mute, at that time of course, i hadn't even gotten into At the drive-in , let alone them, and now of course they're too big to come here ever again......sadness i feel......:(

DontRunMeOver 11-23-2005 03:30 AM

I agree with adidass, De-loused in the Comatorium is better, particularly because they don't try to pass off a minute of two of pointless noise as HALF OF A SONG every time, like they do on Frances the Mute. I'm going to watch them next week at Birmingham Academy - yesssssss!

Adidass... does a band becoming big = not playing in Croatia? I hadn't heard of this rule before, but suppose it might be true. What kind of bands DO come and tour in Croatia (apart from Croatian bands)?

generally yes, that's a rule when it comes to Croatia, like i said somewhere else, by far the biggest and most important band that was in Croatia recently were The white stripes, and the sad part is, with a band of that magnitude and excellence you would think they could pack an entire stadium, no, not in Croatia, they played in a courtyard of an old slaughterhouse and about 5 thousand people came, if that many, i could have easily gone infront of the stage , it was that "dense" but i chose to stay some 20 meters away to avoid the "moshing", the Rolling stones came here in 98 i think, but they're geezers and i don't count them as being important, Metallica was supposed to come but they cancelled the concert at the last minute, so did Lenny Kravitz and queens of the stone age ( the queens decided to end their european tour and go to tour the states with SOAD ). the reason? they didn't sell enough tickets to make the concerts profitable. why? because of the main reason big and important bands don't come to Croatia, we're not a very wealthy country, the average salary here is some 800 euros, in order for the concert (of a big band) to be profitable ( and cover the costs of the equipment and the crew ) the tickets have to cost at least 40 euros, not many people can afford that. the white stripes concert cost about 25 euros and that was a reasonable and affordable price, but they're what you might call a low maintenance band, only two people and the stage was relatively simple. of the bands i listen to only franz ferdinand and queens of the stone age are relatively known and could attract a bigger crowd, but they're in high demand and they choose to go to places where people can pay more for the ticket and where they can pack and entire arena no problem. and especially because of incidents like the one with Metallica, managements of bigger bands choose to avoid coming here because of the risk that they won't sell enough tickets.....it's all very sad and frustrating, if i want to see anyone good, i have to go to Italy. only the relativley unknown and underground bands come to Croatia, for example the young gods, the exploited, mercury rev, some world music stars like Cesaria Evora and Mariza, like i said ,The mars volta before anyone heard about them and they played in a small club and so on. you can imagine how someone like me, who is crazed with music and recently concerts, feels living in such a country.

Yes, this isn't worth bumping a thread for, and yes, it's incredibly childish, but it's also really funny.

I got Deloused the other day, certainly was a good purchase. :)

PopIsDead 11-29-2005 04:18 PM

My favorite Mars Volta disc would have to be De-Loused In The Comatorium. It's really damn good. I wish it were longer, but an hour is still a pretty decent length for it.

Laces Out Dan! 11-29-2005 05:47 PM

Soo........heres how it goes.i like the song Interiatic ESP or something....I have repect for them because they are Progressive...But lost respect for how much they ****in suck live

They are not that bad live, i thought they were decent...Not that i really care, i was never fond of live material that much, i have always been a studio person.

Laces Out Dan! 11-29-2005 05:52 PM

Most people are.except the occasional bands who totally kill the show live

Imonlydancing 11-30-2005 10:23 AM

I don't know if i've posted in here before.

Bleeding.Mascara 04-27-2006 10:52 AM

Truthfully I'm not a huge fan of these guys, but I did see them live at the Big Day Out, they were pretty damn good.
I really wanna buy some of their stuff though aye...

ACellistofCores 04-27-2006 12:39 PM

Well at least most of this turned out positive, I want them to tour...and crash their car in Arizona.

Laces Out Dan! 04-27-2006 10:20 PM

Laces Out Dan! 05-01-2006 10:22 PM

Well...i like how this thread is posted in by a bunch of people who wont stay a week.....But I absolutely love this band

boo boo 05-01-2006 10:58 PM

A lot of people hate this band right now.

But then again, these people listen to a lot of crap bands.

I'd say The Mars Volta are the best band around today after Radiohead, Flaming Lips and The White Stripes.
