Tool/A Perfect Circle

I did a quick search but couldn't see a similar thread.

My ex-girlfriend put me onto Tool about three years ago, and we travelled down to London to see them. They put on one of the most impressive shows I've ever seen, and as a result I went out and bought the records. I love their whole approach to music, from the covers and artwork to the videos, which are among some of the best I think there's ever been (another thread in itself). But the music is sometimes just too dense for me. I can't put it on and relax to it, it's very difficult to do. A Perfect Circle on the other hand, sure the whole approach isn't as innovative and exciting, but again they put on a wonderful live show and as a whole their two albums have been incredibly easy to get into.

What do others think?

Jman67000 07-10-2004 08:50 PM

tool beats the new bands ass

BehindSpace 07-14-2004 05:19 AM

Well your comparing 2 bands that have extremely different sounds to them.
Tool are the kings or hard rock. Their powerful riffs and strong overtones in their lyrics make them one of my favourite bands.
A Perfect Circle is the more soft, melodic version of Tool. Songs like 3 Libras and The Noose are perfect examples of how well they play soft songs.
But seeing as The King, Maynard James Keenan, is in each of these bands, they are both skyrocketed to the top. MJK is a God and thats all there is to it.

spution 07-17-2004 05:06 PM

i havent seen perfect circle live...seen tool twice and it made my year both times....

personally i think that expecting a particular reaction when you put an album on is the wrong way to approach it...just lie down and let the music do what it does....some of my most relaxed moments have been while listening to lateralus...every time you listen to it imagine its your first....expect nothing....

it works for me:)

Falling_Apart 07-18-2004 05:21 AM

A Perfect Circle!
Tool!
Thats so hard dude, i like 'em both :(
If i had to pick though, i'd go for Tool, album-wise, Tool seem to be a little better

Sleepsnekkid 07-19-2004 08:04 PM

I love Tool, and I love PC. I can relax to both of them, my favorite albums being Laturalus (Tool) and The thirteenth step (PC).

Tool - A Perfect Circle - Radiohead

ya just lookin for people who listen to this kinda music.

Fugeela 10-19-2004 02:16 AM

hi newbie
nope, i know who they r, but i dont listen...

aperfecttool 10-19-2004 03:05 AM

ah well... they are awsome lol. what kind of music you listen to if not the best?

covle 10-19-2004 07:12 AM

never liked tool, a perfect circle are in no way "the best" music, radiohead ****ing rock. great band.

swingkids. 10-19-2004 07:13 AM

All of those bands are amazing.

aperfecttool 10-20-2004 02:06 AM

Do Doo Doooooo

"if you give this man a ride, sweet family will die, killer on the road"
they are all brilliant in their own way. its like the doors when they came out.. so original. i think one of the best things about radiohead is that no matter what album they have, you can always say "thats radiohead for ya". they keep their orginality and just amplify their whacked brains with every album. how long has everyone been around in these forums for? i go to boarding school so i kinda just signed up cause i love music and it passes the time rather then study... what does everyone do for fun ?

Kali 10-23-2004 05:49 PM

I went and saw A perfect circle at the Cow Palace a while back They opened for Nine Inch Nails. Eh......I am just bored.

wacky 10-25-2004 03:48 PM

Tool is my favorite band.. great musicians. A perfect circle arent as heavy and Maynard doesnt sing the same but I also like them. Both bands are just so original.. I dont listen much to Radiohead though

Mr.MojoRisin 10-26-2004 12:45 AM

must say good call on the originality w/the doors and radiohead. TooL is one of the greatest bands and APC, cause they usually have something to say in their tunes, other then like "i pimped that bitch" or "i iced that dawg" or "my daddy didnt love me".

scarmepretty 10-26-2004 01:25 AM

wow, I'm so sorry to those people who don't know Tool and A Perfect Circle
Your lives must have some major suckage in it..
They're amazing, Music Jesus's..

aperfecttool 10-26-2004 02:06 AM

hahahaha, "i took that ho from behind like a dawg" - i think thats fat jo's fav line. just imagine that guy taken this ho from behind, he is huge! radiohead are awsome, and your right, maynard doesnt sing as well in a perfect circle as he does in tool, and its far less encripted then tool, but a perfect circle isnt just made from maynard, think of the names in the band!! mansons own bassist who ditched him for apc. smashing pumpkins guitarist who is just fkn AWSOME. josh freese, aka bruce lee @ drums. billy howerdel whos mind is just as genuis as maynards when it comes to composing music. you just cant fail with that line up. tool dont get nearly enough recognition as they should, but thats to be expected when there isnt that many people with the patience and understanding to listen to them. they dont understand the lyrics and the film clips just freak em out, these people are what i call morons. lol thats so egotistical. radiohead are wicked, you gotta listen to them more often. their brillance is in their music more then the lyrics but they are also good, just not as inventive. im looking forward to eMOTIVe. i think its a little dissapointing because i love the lyrics that keenan comes up with but he has picked some wicked songs to cover, imagine, regardless of what other d!p$hit$ say is really good. he didnt even exploit his voice and yet its still so harmonic.

Mr.MojoRisin 10-27-2004 12:11 AM

eMOTIVe is fcking brilliant. it is in no way like any thing else ive ever heard. nuthin like the other APC records, or even like the original songs. the remix cd is also great with an orgasmic remix of judith

aperfecttool 10-27-2004 03:35 AM

OooO remix of judith, good stuff. cant wait to get it although without maynard creating the lyrics, might take the best part from the music but i shall wait and see before i decide :)

Mr.MojoRisin 10-29-2004 01:33 AM

many folks are layin into eMOTIVe pretty heavy sayin it crappy and unoriginal, but just they way it was put toether is brilliant. its an awsome anti-war album. aperfecttool, you seen the vids for count the bodies and imagine? love em

Jesus Of Suburbia 10-30-2004 12:53 AM

radiohead are good, i know that but i dont like them, not my thing. tool rock, not a favorite but very talented. i like apc, especially their cover of imagine, but still not a favorite

aperfecttool 11-02-2004 11:48 PM

na havent seen the vid clips, got a link? radiohead are awsome.. muse are also brilliant, just started getting into them really. mate got me absoloution and ive fallin in love lol.

taylormemer 11-07-2004 07:04 AM

Tool is my favourite band. The way in which their music isn't just a typical verse chorus, verse, chorus, solo, chorus, chorus amazes me. It's not typical music, and Adam Jones with all his effects, and Maynard's amazingly unique voice, and Danny's outstanding drumming just do it for me. Also the lyrics are very in depth and I can easily relate myself to them.
A Perfect Circle also a great band. Radiohead are also good, but I don't listen to them as much, but still very telented musicianists.

Slackjawed Presidents 11-14-2004 10:56 PM

to hate or not be aware of tool and/or perfect circle suggests to me that such a person knows very little about music and should not get their music information from TRL

jibber 11-14-2004 11:36 PM

^ or that they dislike the bands, meaning they have different musical tastes.

AmyLeeFan 02-09-2005 10:50 PM

Tool

I don't know the name of the song. It's a tool song, starts with a 'B' and it's one word, I think it was around 1996 or something.

Dang 02-10-2005 04:14 AM

could it be 'Bottom'? the chorus goes "s**t adds up at the bottom."

hookers with machineguns 02-10-2005 09:12 AM

^ that's what I was thinking, but I also thought, "hmm, that's not a good enough song for someone to start a thread over." But honestly, i cant think of any other tool song that begins with a B.

Ensemble 02-10-2005 08:20 PM

Thank you people. :)

Sneer 02-19-2005 10:45 AM

havent heard much APC, but radiohead are amazing tool are cool.

Soundgardener 02-19-2005 11:52 AM

Radiohead and Tool are awesome... Perfect Circle is ok i guess, but "Counting Bodies Like Sheep to The Rhythm of War Drums" is annoyingly overplayed on some good radio stations.

SlayeReyalS 02-25-2005 12:46 AM

screw APC. Tool is where its at.

hookers with machineguns 02-25-2005 07:36 AM

Both the most-recent releases from Tool and APC were disappointing. It seems like Maynard is always off and on. a lot of people are talking about the new tool in 2005, let's wait and see what thats like.

Fenixpunk 02-25-2005 07:46 AM

I never got into tool, or perfect circle, but i did check out a perfect circle cuz they got my main man on drums (Josh Freese - Vandals)

maryjane88 02-25-2005 09:45 AM

i think that tool has that sort of egde to it that u just can't ignore and a perfect circle seems to be more rythmetic i can't choose between them i love both bands just as much especially beacause they both have the same singer and i just can't complain his voice is amazing in my opinion

I don't know what makes you say that, Lateralus was a better package deal that Aenima and both eMOTIVe and 13th step were great.

Tool is prog metal where APC is hard rock. It's apples and oranges but I think history will look more favorably on TOOL than APC. TOOL were unknowns when they broke (unless you want to bring up Green Jelly which maybe 35 of the pop knew about) where as APC is a super group. People expect way too much from supergroups. They want a greatest hits album, every CD.

TOOL.

It's called "opinion". Hard to grasp, I know.

Personally, I hated Emotive, and besides Danny Carey's drumming, I didn't care much for Lateralus. In fact, the only Tool album I really listen to is Opiate, the rest I now find tiresome. 13th Step was good and so was most of Mer de Noms. It is hard to compare the two, but Maynard's been leaning in a certain direction after Aenima, and I'm interested to see what the new Tool album will sound like.

some person 02-25-2005 09:53 PM

tough choise
-Tool when im mad
-APC when i want to relax
