Urban Hat€monger ? 06-03-2006 06:24 PM

No he`s giving it to Primal Scream :D

cardboard adolescent 06-03-2006 06:25 PM

Damn, if I recorded Loveless I would probably just quit right there, no point in going downhill for another twenty years before realizing you had hit your peak.

WOOOOOOOOOoooo I've sparked a Zappa fanboy-ism movement

analogdemon 07-15-2006 01:37 PM

I'm new here, but I absolutely love Zappa. I own major portions of his discography and have always found his music to be like crack for my mind. It's just that addictive. haha

Favorite albums are Freak Out!, We're Only in It for the Money, Hot Rats, Chunga's Revenge, Apostrophe and Sheik Yerbouti.

He deserves any and all respect he'll ever receive.

Urban Hat€monger ? 07-20-2006 12:03 PM

BUMP

That 78 album torrent i`m downloading is almost done (It`s at 89%)
All the albums from the first 10 years of his career are completed & all I can say is WOW. What took me so long getting into this guys work.

Hot Rats should have been in the Urban 100 :(

cardboard adolescent 07-20-2006 12:10 PM

That's what the Urban 1000 is for, right?

Urban Hat€monger ? 07-20-2006 12:23 PM

Yeah , but it should be in the original list

tdoc210 07-20-2006 12:28 PM

I wish I did not have dial up, I woul d-load that 78 album thing, that Urban has.

The first three are absolutely magnificent, and of those, Absolutely Free is probably my favorite.

mosesandtherubberducky 07-20-2006 12:52 PM

:( I'm going to attempt to learn Willie the Pimp from Hot Rats. If I remember it all I'll record it =/

Forget playing that song, I just wish I could learn to sing the way Beefheart does on that song!!!

*sings* I'm a little pimp with my hair gassed back...pair of khaki pants and my shoes shined black...

God I love that song.

The genius that is Frank Zappa. Here is a ten track taster for all the unitiated out there. Most of these tracks are taken from his STRICTLY COMMERCIAL album and are just that, for Zappa it is! The guy can play pretty much any genre sometimes even in the same song and excel at all of it. DON'T EAT THE YELLOW SNOW combines his trademark humour with a truly genre hopping sound. SEXUAL HARRASMENT IN THE WORKPLACE showcases his awesome guitar playing and DIRTY LOVE is a slab of funk tinged rock. Download now and enter the world of Zappa!

Check y'all.

Kevorkian Logic 01-12-2008 06:50 AM

What does everyone think of Hot Rats? It's an album of his that I quite enjoy that I rarely hear mentioned. If anyone wants a listen feel free to PM me.

GravitySlips 01-12-2008 09:07 AM

Hot Rats is great. Initially I thought it was one of his weaker early albums, but after a few recent listens it's shot well up my list.

Kevorkian Logic 01-12-2008 11:50 AM

I think people widely consider it one of his weaker albums just because its not as well-known as others.

Braincheese 01-13-2008 10:46 AM

Zappa is the ****.. seriously, awesome man. His son is a great guitarist aswell. :)

mrbagel3 01-14-2008 04:28 PM

i really disagree that it's considered one of his weaker albums. most lists of best album's i've seen have it on them as well as absolutely free, woiiftm, freak out, and the grand wazoo.

it's definitely his most respected jazz/rock album.

anzamatik 01-14-2008 05:10 PM

I adore Waka/Jawaka as well, and the recently released "Wazoo" from the tour of the same name is pretty astounding all around.

O'Bannion 01-15-2008 03:36 AM

I haven't heard a lot of Zappa, but I do know that if your heart is broken you're an *******.

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-15-2008 11:49 AM

I've always been fond of his Uncle Meat album.

Zappa is ridiculously underrated, both as a guitarist and a songwriter. I mean...his music is UNBELIEVABLY difficult. So few bands or even composers in general have ever reached his level of composition because he's just ridiculous.

Muzak 01-25-2008 10:16 PM

Zappa = God

And not just that but charisma , a sense of humour and intelligence too.
That's what really make him stand out for me from all the other fret wankers.

5-Track 02-17-2008 01:44 PM

We just watched "Does Humor Belong In Music?" last night, live DVD from a 1984 show. I've never got much into later FZ but seeing what was happening on the stage gave it the dimension it had been lacking. And can I add, I am so lucky as to share my life with the only girl I've ever met who enjoys Frank!

Comus 02-17-2008 05:24 PM

Zappa is pretty much the greatest man ever.

Basically everything he touched was gold.

Halfa 02-19-2008 06:32 PM

except the LP he used
i'm pretty sure it wasnt gold...just a standard burst

of course i might be wrong
if it wasnt gold it might as well have been

YouTube - Who Is That Guy-In The Sky

best. video. ever.

SATCHMO 03-07-2008 10:42 AM

I was pissed off to find out that his estate yanked all of his albums off the itunes store

cardboard adolescent 03-07-2008 04:13 PM

for my scholarship interview they asked me if i had a hero or idol, someone i aspired to be like. i told them frank zappa :)

Molecules 03-08-2008 06:27 PM

RIGHT. I've spent the last 6 hours buried away expanding my minimal Frank Zappa knowledge, drinking water and chain smoking and so far the highlights have been:

the quotes in Absolutely Free from 'Rites of Spring',
Flower Punk tearing the psychedelic cliche's of a lifetime to pieces with a parody of 'Hey Joe' (ironically sounds like an amazing album to have a blaze to)

Well okay that's only two but I'm still a bit overwhelmed and it's pretty late. His 60's work is amazing and totally underexposed, I hope Macca still blushes when he hears Freak Out! and Sgt.Pepper's mentioned in the same sentence.
Oh yeah and didn't Alternative TV cover 'Why dontcha do me right'?? Course they did! Brilliant.

If you still need convincing, cop Cardboard's Zappa compilation.
ker-ching!

lucifer_sam 07-19-2008 09:11 PM

May I suggest this thread be moved to general music? Zappa was certainly a multitalented man and was once a classical composer and conductor, Anyways it should get more interest in him...

bardonodude 07-21-2008 08:29 PM

good idea but Zappa at his satirical best was no doubt we're only in it for the money, did anyone see that debate he was in about censorship in music? it was hilarious haha. By far one of my favorite artists of all time

jackhammer 07-26-2008 07:02 PM

He was one mean guitar player too:
