Haunting

It's hard to pick just one, but I'd go with "Have a Cigar"

A brilliant satirical comment on the music business with great music to boot.

ElephantSack 12-06-2009 05:19 PM

Echoes

OceanAndSilence 12-06-2009 06:54 PM

there's so many... but wish you were here just takes your mind places... more so

mr dave 12-06-2009 07:26 PM

for me it's all about 'Time' or 'Eclipse'.

proto-punk 12-06-2009 08:21 PM

Interstellar Overdrive and like every song on Dark Side

ElephantSack 12-06-2009 08:44 PM

I think I might have to recant my earlier claim and go with "Us and Them"

HotFunkColdPunk 12-06-2009 09:19 PM

Money. Noo question. =)

scottsy 12-13-2009 11:18 AM

I'm still going with Echoes... just 20 plus minutes of pure and complete total awesomeness.

RockInsanity 01-01-2010 04:57 PM

Mother and Comfortably Numb.

In my opinion, probably one of the most terrible Pink Floyd songs ever, and a huge wrench in the gearbox of Dark side of the Moon.

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-01-2010 05:10 PM

Don't listen to a huge amount of Pink Floyd but I play this song often.

Jimi Xenon 01-03-2010 07:57 AM

I would have to say either "Not Now John" or "Another Brick in the Wall". Although, I also quite like the song "Is There Anybody Out There"

Phillyboy 01-03-2010 03:49 PM

"Another Brick..." is the standard to me, but I really love "Pigs"

I agree, although it's really hard to judge Animals on a song by song basis. As an album it really is one of the most coherent "whole" pieces of contemporary music.

Yes, it flows together so well..."Pigs" is the first track I heard off that album, so that's what got me into it, and it's got one of my favorite hooks of all time.

Fast Frankie 01-04-2010 01:46 AM

Dark Side of the Moon is the ONLY complete album that I've heard that I consider 5 stars, every song.

I dig a lot of albums but every other album has at least 1 weak link in it (usually more than 1). Dark Side, however, is a complete masterpiece. Amazing; I can't stand to listen to just one song in it, i want to hear it in entirety.

The one song, on this PF album in particular, that stands out is Money. I love the message about capitalism and money in general, I love the early use of samples, I love the overlapping rhythms in the intro, it's just a great track and works well by itself.

Of course, it doesn't hurt Money that it is immediately followed up by Us and Them... but that's a whole 'nother lengthy post!

Despite my love for many other tracks I do find this an almost perfect encapsulation of their post Syd Era:

duga 01-04-2010 07:53 PM

anyone heard the madcap laughs? that's what happens when you have an acid breakdown, folks.

that being said, it actually is a great piece of music with some very interesting songs. the fact that syd changes chords, keys, and timings sometimes multiple times in a song and it still sounds like a coherent piece of music is truly astounding.

TumorAttitude 01-05-2010 06:51 PM

In my mind, I guess Time or Bicycle. If I thought harder I could come up with a better answer.
I kinda like Syd better solo.

debaserr 01-05-2010 08:49 PM

Any Colour You Like, Money, Hey You, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, and Wish You Were Here are all stellar. However my choice is Comfortably Numb.

scottsy 01-08-2010 11:47 PM

I've kinda been fancying Time as my favorite Pink Floyd song lately...

Top notch choice, mate.

The Fascinating Turnip 01-09-2010 08:49 AM

I can't really chose...Echoes is brilliant, so is Shine On You Crazy Diamond...and many many others. I have a deep love for One Of My Turns too, but no one ever mentions this track =/
Incidentally, has anyone heard the work they did for Zabriskie Point?

CosmicPrimitive 01-09-2010 03:50 PM

Echoes from "Live At Pompeii" ... preferably the original cut, not the director's cut

I was disappointed with the directors cut myself and much prefer the original.

chad 01-10-2010 08:21 AM

1. wish you were here - this one, i still remember the lyrics and is my most fave song of them
2. shine on you crazy diamond
3. another brick in the wall

Yeah, I guess I'm all for the director getting to realize his vision and so forth, but I also wish sometimes they'd quit tweaking with things, or at least keep all prior versions available if there's merit to them (who decides if there's merit, beats me)

duga 01-10-2010 12:56 PM

interestingly...one of my favorite things pink floyd has done is pulse...that live dvd rocks the **** and it was well after roger waters left.

Schmidti 01-11-2010 11:10 AM

For me, it's the most popular song: Another brick in the wall! I think, it's very good arranged, a very rare song wich has integrated a children's choir and very funky, godd to play in a band and to make fun!

TumorAttitude 01-13-2010 08:49 PM

Does anybody have favorite Pink Floyd songs that arn't singles? Get Boo boo back in here, Pink Floyd is his favorite group.

Guybrush 01-13-2010 11:25 PM

Although perhaps not my favourites, I like quite a few of the later Pink Floyd songs as well. I already mentioned High Hopes from their last studio album Division Bell, but from A Momentary Lapse of Reason for example, you have songs like Learning to Fly, One Slip and On the Turning Away.

I'll mention them since almost noone else seem to acknowledge anything they did in the post-Barret-Waters period. ;)

Most definitely. You just have to scan back through the thread.

jerkmonkey 01-16-2010 05:50 PM

They have a lot of great songs, my personal favorites are "Brain Damage" and "Money", both of which you can find on their Dark Side of the Moon album.

Scissorman 01-16-2010 07:26 PM

High Hopes
