You would be correct on this one (that keyboard solo on Welcome to the Machine is incredible though).

Wish You Were Here
Welcome to the Machine
Have a Cigar

That's three winners, isn't it?

You understand what the title alludes to? And the overall vibe of the album?

Floyd had just conquered the universe with one of the most epic albums of all time. They got back into the studio and were stuck. Roger was basically saying "Syd, I wish you were here."

And the album developed from that. Very sad and meloncholy. A mix of commenting on becomming a superstar band and being swallowed by the industry mixed with the guys just feeling sad about Barrett.

Ever hear the story about how Syd just showed up one day at the studio during the recording sessions of WYWH and he was so overweight and had shaved his head and eyebrows so the band at first didn't recognize him.

Once Gilmour figured it out he broke down crying. As did the other guys. Syd left without speaking a word.

That's a fascinating story and all (which I'm sure he's heard tbh since it's pretty common knowledge), but the album is still dull. Or was that part of the theme? That life without Syd is boring, repetitive, and pointless? If so, maybe I'm not giving the album the credit it deserves because it nails that right on the head.

If you can't appreciate Welcome to the Machine, Wish You Were Here, and Have a Cigar then there's no hope for you. Not only are they brilliant songs, albeit very dark, but the production is unreal.

When was the last time you listened to WTTM really loud on headphones? My God. People rave about Radiohead and yet that haven't come close to anything like that. Humphries is amazing.

I guess that's true.

Oh ja, they were certainly masters of production, even when the music was terrible.

Probably a year ago? Idk I don't keep track of that kind of thing but I've certainly heard it enough times to know that my opinion is valid.

Oh, and Radiohead sucks ass, but that's nothing to do with Floyd.

We all have opinions. We also all wipe our asses. It's all good.
