At least then they weren't 30-year-olds trying to make a comeback. Sure, they're trying to be rebellious on Dookie, and it's cheesy as hell. But it's also (somehow) more musically honest, in my opinion.

This is just another case of fans not liking their bands to change and grow over time. Even thought they were being rebellious on American Idiot it was formulated so much better with less of the angst.

To defend myself - when I first discovered Green Day, it was only right before they announced their trilogy. I never got to see them change. Also, I do enjoy some of their newer songs, especially from iTre!.

Okay that's understandable.

Too be honest American Idiot has a similar meaning behind it as albums like Dookie and Kerplunk. American idiot might disguise itself as being all about **** politics and war, but if you look deeper its really a story about a teenager (most likely billie joe) finding himself and who he is. dookie is more of billie joe talking about situations in his life, american idiot is a story showing a more general idea of what happened to his life.

I think its an old story just put in a refreshing new style. Imagine if they made another album in the same style as dookie.. it'd just be boring to listen to the same **** again.

Just my opinion

Taxman 12-15-2013 09:49 AM

Yep. The way they matured from a pop punk band that sang about teenagers and their problems (and was great) to a popular pop band that is able to even do some social criticism (and is still great) is what makes them special.
Sadly, while 21st Century Breakdown was good, they have been losing it recently. I mean, they should have made one great album instead of three average ones.

Just my humble opinion. Do not crucify me.

Yeah that is true, I still like their songs, but it's a shame they veered so close towards pop songs, though that's kinda where they were going though after American Idiot tbh. And they didn't take the time to perfect a rock opera like AI. AI was amazing cos of the way the music told a story. The latest 3 you can tell are them just messing around in the studio.
