Kiddish in a way but great fun to listen to even today.

As you can tell by the username, all time favorite band. From 39/Smooth to Uno! Dos! Tre! Listen to it all though I mostly prefer their older stuff. Personal favorite song is probably Christie Road from the Kerplunk album.

As long as you don't prefer 21st Century Breakdown, there's hope for you. Kerplunk! is my favorite.

It's honestly the one album I don't care much for. It's not the same feel as their other albums. Dookie's probably my favorite, with Kerplunk in second and Insomniac, American Idiot, and 1039/Smoothed out Slappy Hours rounding out my top 5.

Dookie is probably my favorite album by them, if not of the 90's... in terms of nostalgic influence and all that jazz.

Green Day and Nirvana always battled it out for my favorite band that supplied the soundtrack to my teenage angst. I think "Dookie" is miles ahead of "Nevermind" in terms of listening to them still.

Dookie was juvenile and fun, had a lot of hooks and is just a fun album to listen to.

Only album I may rank a bit higher in terms of albums that make me nostalgic for those years is Weezer - Blue.

Which? "Dookie"?

I do not think this is the case, or what they were going for. To me "Dookie" was just as great as "Kerplunk!", but the only difference was that they had a bigger budget to do it, and more room to make something sound just right.

"Kerplunk!" is also my favorite, it is a stripped down version of what "Dookie" was, and it worked well. "2000 Light Years Away", "Christy Road", "80", "One of my Lies" and "Welcome to Paradise" are easily amongst their best songs.

But, I dunno, it was just the right time for me when "Dookie" came out, I was 13 and it had references to masturbation and a juvenile snotty feel that just made sense to me at that time.

I think depth is not what they were going for on that really, just a fun album with great production values that they probably never expected would become the success it did.

insomniac

loved dookie. But Insomniac should have done better. Geek Stink Breath, 86, Brat, No Pride, Walking Contradiction, all gr8 songs. I REALLY THINK INSOMNIAC SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE NEXT DOOKIE..

BastardofYoung 03-01-2014 02:20 AM

To me, "Insomniac" just felt like an album of songs that could have been recorded during the sessions, but were not used. Also had my favorite Green Day song of all-time.

It felt rushed, I think it was out within a year of "Dookie" being released, seems like it was just one of those albums that the studio told them to put out ASAP cause they had an unexpected hit with "Dookie" and thought they could capitalize on it by getting it out ASAP.

But I liked it a lot when it came out, it had a more dark side to it, still had some of the goofiness from "Dookie", but also had a more abrasive tone to it.

Up until "American Idiot", it was their second best selling album after "Dookie". Did not match the sales of that album, but was not a total waste either.

I like it just as much in its own way. I would go "Kerplunk!" > "Dookie" > "Insomniac" as my top 3 Green Day albums.
