Ramones are great. There's plenty of melodic punk bands from then until now.

70s- Stiff Little Fingers, The Adverts, Buzzcocks, Undertones
80s- Dead Moon, Husker Du (also were very noisy), Descendents, The Replacements
90s- Jawbreaker, The Queers, Dillinger Four, Hot Water Music
Present- Masked Intruder, Teenage Bottlerocket, The Menzingers, Direct Hit!

There's more out there than you might know.

Absolutely. Including some extremely well-known bands, like the Clash.

It's amazing that 36 years after the advent of punk, people are still getting into passionate arguments about what punk music is all about. Especially since punk was declared dead way back in 1978.

Forgot that I love The Queers and The Punkles too. Are they reckoned as punk bands?

Yeah they are, the Punkles is kind of a joke band. Whateverdude's list is awesome. I'd check out those bands. If you're into the Queers and Ramones you should also check out the Riverdales and Screeching Weasel. Especially the Riverdales, I think you'd really like them.

I already have a few songs by Screeching Weasel and Teenage Bottlerocket which I downloaded from iTunes. I really like the songs Hey Suburbia and Repeat Offender.

But The Queers seem to me to be much more consistent in making good songs.

While we are on the subject, here is a list of my top favorite Queers songs:

1) Kicked Out of the Webelos
2) F*ck the World
3) Rambo Rat
4) I Only Drink Bud
5) She´s a Cretin
6) Punk Rock Girls
7) Tamara is a Punk
8) Love Love Love
9) Another Girl
10) Monster Zero
11) Ursula Finally Has Tits
12) Ben Weasel
13) Queerbait
14) Boobarella
15) I Gotta Girlfriend

Any thoughts?

#2 & 6 are my favorite queers songs. Never was a SW fan but they've been around a while and have had many lineup changes so that's prolly why they seem inconsistent. The Spits are realllly good ramonescore too, little darker though and pretty druggy band/fan base. Riverdales as crow said are good too. The Ergs were waaaaaay into ramones and queers and have this sappy fun hopeless romantic theme. They're great, RIP one of the best punk bands of the ast 10 years

ahh! The Ergs rule so hard. Mikey Erg started like a fuzz punk band I remember hearing a song from awhile ago, it was pretty solid. galt54 you should check them out, get Dorkcockrod if you can. My favorite Queers song is probably Punk Rock Girls also.

EDIT: Pale Angels! there we go

One of my favourite genres around, love the intensity of it all.
Favourite bands in the punk genre are Husker Du, Minutemen, Big Black, nomeansno and Man Sized Action.
Shame it's relatively dead today although I hear there's a pretty active community in eastern europe.
