Totally cool if you think so, but did you actually give an honest listen?

I don't think Death are all that great. Kind of overrated.
But it's got some charms and is massively influential.

I guess what I still wonder the most about you is: Do you actually base your feelings of disdain towards metal on experience and knowledge, or is it a knee-jerk thing?

my ears are with Lou Reed when he said "the essence of rock is a non musical form of music"

I think I kind of get it.
Honestly, a lot of metal is boring when it tries to be heavy. Too much metal has very little sense of groove and you get a feeling the musicians involved would not be able to jam together very coherently if asked to.
There are so many bands that rise above this though.
While I find most supposedly great black, death and thrash metal acts to be downright boring, there's so many bands that forge their own path into awesome sounding territory that I still end up calling myself a massive metal fan, even if I don't care about most of the canon.

that's the petty part where I "hate" it it's super popular atm and I just want to talk about other music I find more interesting
1: A lot of metal fans of the worst sort (trad metal/NWOBHM) are gonna fall through your Deftones net.
2: The petty part is the whole thing.

I like that one Deftones song, Knife Party. Their newest album also had some qualities, but... eh. Boring band.

Just like Phil Collins, they have a couple allright songs, and that's it.
