|
50,000 Fall Fans Can't Be Wrong
It's the only compilation that covers their entire career. |
Alright, and studio albums?
|
You'll need to find out what era of the band you like first before I can answer that.

Mmmm... I only have This Nation's Saving Grace. I thought it was pretty good. Any suggestions on other good material?

If you want something a bit different Live At The Witch Trials , Hex Enduction Hour , The Infotainment Scan & Extricate are all the highlights from each of the bands different eras. |
I got "50,000 Fall Fans Can't be Wrong" which was a great introduction to them. I'd say one of the most underrated post-punk bands out there. "Rowche Rumble" is my favorite.
|
The Fall certainly knew how to do a damn good cover:

I don't know about the rest, but these don't sound "plagiarized". "Rowche Rumble" has a riff slightly like the one in shake appeal, but its much more chaotic. "Touch Sensitive" and "Waiting For the Man" have really basic chord progressions that 100's maybe 1000s of rock songs use. Rock n Roll is a massive incestual orgy of plagiarisms and rip-offs. |
That may be true but Smith is the king of re-appropriation. Stealing riffs and basslines here and there and making them his own is part of his style
|
I finally have a complete collection of Radio Sessions NOT recorded for John Peel.
I'll up them if there's any interest |
Im interested
|
so im getting into them and I have been listening to live at the witch trials and this nations saving grace. where should i go from here?

I've listened to 2 tracks off Witch Trials, and while I merely thought they were ok, based on posts about The Fall in this thread I'm guessing they'll grow on me (whenever I get the whole album).
|
Saw them for the first time at the Hackney Empire on Halloween. Amazing.
Support acts were: Bobbie Peru who were very good, I think they just need a singer though. John Cooper Clarke who was amusing. Interestingly, he lives only a few miles away from me. Safi who was rubbish. I think it was interesting to begin with, had a manipulated Sinead O'Connor video with some extra electronic bits, but then it just got horribly mind numbing. And needless to say, The Fall was fantastic. Also, I was sitting beside these dancing girls. You'd think they were Girls Aloud fans rather than Fall fans. I take it their boyfriends dragged them along and they just wanted to have fun. One of them kept spilling beer on me :| Also, had some awesome dance music at the start. Wish I knew what it was :( Anyway, yeah. The Fall are the best post-punk band, if you ask me. I only have about six of their albums, though :/ "Primark have some alright stuff at a fair price" ~ Mark E. Smith |
I just recently downloaded and listened to "Dragnet". What should I go for next?
|
Grotesque
|
I'm still a bit of a novice when it comes to the Fall but you can't go wrong with This Nation's Saving Grace. It's awesome!
|
this thread has gone too long without a bump.
Keen for the new album supposedly coming out in 2010. After downloading Grotesque in August, and being so-so with it, coming back to it about a month ago and since then have acuired 29 of the bands releases, two books and as much ****e as I can. I am totally immersed in this band, like no band before and no band to come, i am sure of that. Brix Era (Heart) |
I do heart that Fall compilation that was posted here under 00002 Fall Fans can't be wrong. All Fall novices should listen.
|
Were my bad of the week last week clocking in around 200 listens according to last.fm.
Only just really begun to delve into their massive discography, but with demonoid still down it's hard to find a discography torrent. Currently This Nation's Saving Grace is my favorite of their albums. |
That album is probably my favourite out of the Brix era, closely followed by Wonderful and Frightening World blah blah blah.
Edit: Another two releases to the collection, Bingo Masters EP and Middle Class Revolt. |
I've fallen in love with The Fall.Hex Enduction Hour is incredible.

In other news, I've been listening to the Light User Syndrome again lately, and it ain't half bad. Not exactly what I'd call great though. |
