No doubt you'll be going to the Carling Academy gig.

No Manchester venue?

i have to hand it to urban, his constant referal to the fall prompted me to buy their anthlogy and i havent been disappointed, really, really good band and mark E. smith is just class.

It's the norm for people to be put off by this band on first listen, but when you work out where he's coming from...genius.

It's unusual for a man to control so much of his material as Mark E Smith.

i just admire how, despite the fact you can hear and sense the level of aggression and fire he has in him, he manages to control it and make a really engaging song of it.

It's not just that...it's his ability to hit the nail on the head, in such a down to earth way.
Simplicity.

The thing about the Fall is the way they suck you in.
I first heard them around 1992 & hated them.
Then around the time Witch Trials was being remastered i listened to it & picked up on it.So I bought all the reissues as they came out & probably only liked 3 or 4 songs from each one.
But once you listen to those songs you go back & you hear something that you like about another & then another & another.

When I bought that Peel session box set a couple of years ago I probably only liked about one discs worth of material on it , now I can listen to all 6 discs without skipping a single song.

I very rarely mention The Fall on these forums, because like with Northern Soul...I don't expect others to "get it".

Both (on a personal level) reside outside of what is considered 'popular music'...but for very different reasons.
