1. Whats punk rawkz ABOUT CONFORMITITYZ?
2. What places can you work with a mohawk? Normally they either won't hire you, or make you hide it.
3. You can have a job in high school.
4. Murder Junkie is right, punk isn't a fashion.

Privately owned businesses are different then the majority of places where teens get to work which have company policies.

actually there are a whole lot lawsuits dealing with this type of thing, because unless things like Mohawks and dress are specifically addressed in the contract between employer and employee the employer can not discriminate on appearance and can be found guilty of discrimination and can go to court. In the case that there is a clause in the contract pertaining to hairstyles/clothing there had to be a justifiable reason that the certain hairstyles/clothing is not permitted within the employers business (i.e. uniform).

If employer is found to unlawfully discriminating against employees right of expression he is liable to be sued and will probably not win the lawsuit (it depends on what state you reside in).

^Above mainly pertains to publicly traded businesses, private businesses can actually get around the law a bit more

yea, I cant agree more with crowquill, what does punk rock have to do with conformity, absolutely zilch. Conformity of fashion is the antithesis of the punk rock lifestyle.

Note the use of "employer" and "employee," where the point ethan was making was that they wouldn't hire you in the first place.

there are still laws (in some states, usually the more liberal ones) that makes it illegal not to hire somebody on the sole basis of appearance, religion, national origin, obesity, sexual preference.

I somehow thought I had implied that in previous statement. Apparently I didn't.

How the **** do you regulate that? Nobody forces companies to justify not hiring someone..

If employer does not of a B.F.O.Q. the person applying for the job can go to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and file a complaint. And if the complaint is seen as violation of the law the potential employer gets in trouble somehow.

I don't think thats true and if it is, thats ridiculous. Theres nothing wrong with wanting your employees to look friendly, and some dude with nose rings, a mohawk and tattoos probably won't present that image.

My brother works for a company and they won't hire anyone with tattoos that can't be hidden by the uniform, and they let them know if they have piercings, dyed hair or excessive facial hair has to go too. They havn't gotten shit about it.
