Punk has definitely gone through it's major evolutions.
Sadly I wasn't there to watch the metamorphosis of it from the beginning.

Punk began with bands like the Ramones, and changed to something else with bands like Basement Jaxx, and a whole lot of others.

There are so many different kinds of punk now days.
there's thrash, emo, ska, techno, and some others.

I guess it's all in how you interpret it.

I define punk as just about anything too light to be heavy metal and has the attitude of a grunge band. I suppose garage bands can be punk too though.

draw the line for yourself. It's a matter of personal opinion, so form your own opinions instead of leaving it to others to dictate the guidleines to you. You're the one who's so against conforming to societal norms, and so proud of your so called "punk lifestyle", I would think that you'd already have formed your own opinion regarding this matter, you seem to be plenty opinionated on other matters.

Punk is short for punka or punkah which is
1. A fan made from leaf-palm.
2. A large mechanical fan for cooling a room.

Its also something used to light fireworks.
