I'd suggest The Slits - Cut if you don't know it already. I just recently started listening to X-Ray Spex because they started at the roxy along with the slits. They're pretty good.

Any recommendations for artistic, well-written punk music? Lyrically and instrumentally?

Instrumentally? gtfo

No but after years of being a punk fan and much research into the matter I've come to the conclusion the best punk band, is in fact, Crass. Fuck man even after just typing their name I now have to go listening to the Feeding of 5000. Excuse the ****, I'll clean up later.

Is Minutemen a correct answer?

F*cked Up immediately came to mind, but you'd probably hate them because of the vox.

Yup. They are now one of my favorite bands. Their third albums is amazing.

You are also right. They are the same situation with the other band. The instrumental is great, but the vocals are terrible (in my opinion, maybe not yours).

Crass is okay. They seem a bit too angry and can't keep a strong thought like Minutemen. Although, I'[m sure that this'll change. I know I'll come to like them eventually. Penis Envy is a decent album, and I think it's cool that they're diving into the realm of sexism.

What do you mean can't keep a strong thought? Crass, to me, are one of the most thoughtful bands that ever made music. I think punk that matters is usually pretty angry.
