Default Blink-182...Angels & Airwaves

There were almost 800 hits for Blink 182 when I did a search, and I'm not going to go through all 800 just to see if this same thread exists, so...

What would everyone's pitch on this be that listens to both bands? Personally, I have never really been a Blink-182 fan at all, but I do really enjoy some of their music. Tom decided to start a new project in 2005, which would become Angels & Airwaves. I was interested because I was always a fan of Tom as a singer, usually though, voices like his aren't something I care for. I went ahead and decided to check them out, and I found myself really digging the sort of floaty, atmospheric, pop, indie rock sound they had. I personally think they're a better band than Blink-182 and I also feel that it let Tom and his talent as a songwriter shine, I always knew he was better than what he wrote in Blink-182.

I've never consider Blink-182 a true punk band, or punk at all. I always thought they were closer to a sort of punk influenced pop rock. So I don't know if starting the thread here is accurate.

What are everyone's thoughts on what band is better?

I've done my fair share of Blink 182 bashing but... they have written some catchy, fun songs. Ceshire Cat is a corny, emoish, pop-punk gem if I'm being fair. Haven't heard much of A&A but what I have heard seemed meh... Tom peaked with Dude Ranch. It's been downhill from there.

Edit:

I tried to listen to CC and DR and now take back my statement. Blink 182 still suck and wish they were NOFX.

My thought on both bands is that Tom has a horrible singing voice..

it's almost a joke how whinny it is but he's not a bad guitar player, Mark had a better singing voice imo and Blink sounded more punk with their first drummer Scott than with Travis but even with their best line up at best they just were a decent pop punk band you were into when you were 13 but over time outgrew.

At least that's my case..

That's funny.

Mark is the one that has the annoying voice in my opinion. Tom has that whining type voice, but Mark always sounds tone deaf.

lol 'I Miss you' comes to mind

To be honest neither of them are very good singers but i think Mark is the lesser of 2 evils.

I thought they sounded terrible on Cheshire Cat and Buddha! But I really dug Dude Ranch and Enema of the State.

As for Angels and Airwaves and Box Car Racer, I never really paid much attention. I liked the mix of Tom and Mark, not just Tom. I liked Plus 44 more, but even then, I would have preferred the mix of Tom and Mark.

I wish they would return to their fun/funny style rather than their strange emo-ish direction they took.

I enjoy Blink, they have a couple songs I like and I really digged the new album. With that said I do thing AvA is the better band, they were one of my most listened bands a couple years ago even.

Angels & Airwaves' I-Empire is an amazing album. If you've not heard it yet, give it a listen when you have time.

Tom and Mark are both terrible singers. That's just a fact really. I personally had a huge Blink phase, but looking back on it, they aren't really a great band. They have some songs that are fun and catchy, but a lot of their music is just tiring and annoying, and I like that Angels and Airwaves have a new, alternative style.
