I listen to Dre for his rapping. He has such a commanding presence to me. Never been super into his beats.

All the 3 are actually great rappers. But in terms of rapping ability and performance I'd say Ice Cube is the best out of the 3. Eazy-E died and Dr. Dre doesnt really release anything new anymore, so.

Insane Guest 01-20-2013 08:04 PM

Me having voted for the fourth option a while back shows how my ignorance has changed about rap, but Dre for sure, all of his collaborations end up being the tightest thing I ever heard, Ice solo is pretty good too.

SGR 01-21-2013 06:39 AM

What did you guys think of Eazy's debut album?

They're laughing at you though. Because Dre's rapping sucks compared to his production. He's just not a very good rapper.

Goofle 01-21-2013 08:02 AM

I know they are (maybe assuming I was joking) and I never said he was a great rapper, but I do enjoy his rapping at times. Not a massive "golden age" or "west coast" Hip Hop fan and his beats are not really that interesting for me. Certain tracks are nice of course.

Yeah, I assumed you were joking.

For the record, I don't hate Dre's rapping. I think it works fine in the context of his songs, it's just not the stand-out attribute of his music for me.

It's okay, you can say 'G-Funk' :)
Honestly, I don't really know much about his production beyond the really popular albums from the early-mid 90s. Perhaps it became stale. But his OG G-Funk is the G-Funkiest.
You didn't say Dre is a great rapper but you did say he had a commanding presence. I guess I can see that but Ice Cube commands him into the ground.

Goofle 01-21-2013 08:57 AM

I never listen to him to be honest, but you know who it is when he is on the mic. His verse on "Forgot About Dre" is a stand out for me. He doesn't write his own stuff and it's not exactly inspirational, but there's something about his voice that I love.

Insane Guest 01-21-2013 11:10 AM

Seems weird to me as well that Dre is criticized for his rap, some of the best NWA songs have a younger Dre at the mic, he kills some of his newer songs, but yeah his beats are better.

FRED HALE SR. 01-21-2013 11:14 AM

I love the Chronic but I find myself always throwing on Cube or Eazy more on a regular basis. I think Cube and Eazy just have more distinguished voices and I like the way they lay it down. I will always have love for The Chronic though, hell of an album.

Whiskey 01-23-2013 01:31 AM

If only Dr Dre had released more than just 2 albums, and not let Snoop Dogg rap on half of The Chronic, I'd listen to him much more often.

Eazy M'fin E! **** Dre, with his studio gangster bull**** ;)

You do realize that Eazy E had multiple ghostwriters right? ;)

Surell 04-21-2013 09:03 PM

but he was for rella gangsta

Eazy E was a pretty good businessman, cooperating with Jerry Heller to form his own record label and all. He also had charisma and a unique voice, but I wouldn't call him a top rapper. A "rella gangsta", maybe. ;)

Surell 04-22-2013 07:30 PM

I meant more in the sense that he was the only one who had any hand in the drug trade seriously, a lot of his money from that financed NWA from what i've heard. He may have become so shrewd by being in that dirty dirty bisness. Definitely not a top rapper persay, but as far as charisma guys go he's up there. I've never been too into EZ though.

SGR 04-23-2013 06:43 AM

Oh yeah, that's true. You're right, he has a lot of charisma and that halfway makes up for his lack of skills as a lyricist. What did you think about his debut album?

Surell 04-23-2013 09:32 AM

The only album I actually ever owned by him was a greatest hits, which I didn't listen to a whoole lot once I didn't hear "Boyz in the Hood." I should check it out though.

SGR 04-24-2013 07:27 AM

Yeah you should, you should also check out "Eazy Duz It". A lot of folks love the album and I think it's definitely worth at least checking out.

Hate it when spammers are banned and you've been talking to them. Makes it look like you're talking to yourself.

that's why you don't quote/talk to someone that looks like they might be a spammer.

billyblaze 05-02-2013 03:34 PM

Now, in what area are we talking here....

Lyrically...Ice Cube is wayy better than them both. Dre is ok, he just makes bad ass beats.

Eazy E...well, they ghost wrote for him, beyond that...he wasn't spectacular.

I have to agree with this. Eazy-E and Dr. Dre didn't for the most part have great lyrics. Especially Dre.

Soulflower 05-04-2013 05:34 PM

I love all of NWA. I love Eazy and Ice Cube. Dre is a great producer.

I think Ice Cube is the best overall. His delivery is amazing and he was a good lyrist. Dre was/is a good producer but he only has one really good album (solo wise). Cube has stronger material.

You didn't like 2001? I thought that was Dre's peak production wise. It's such a beautiful album.

I agree...2001, in terms of production...was stellar. Some of the best beats ever assembled. Dude just has an amazing ability to make rap music.

Definitely, it's just too bad there wasn't more Snoop/Em on the album and less Hittman.

At that point...yes, when Em was in his prime. Too bad his quality took a nose dive.

What do you think is Em's worst album? "Encore"?

Ooh yea, mos def. Slim Shady and Marshal Mathers were superb. The two that followed just went downhill, and Encore was just booty.

Hm, a lot of people LOVE Eminem Show. I don't mind it but "Drips" alone makes it worse than his last two.

Goofle 05-11-2013 11:01 AM

I listened to 2001 recently. Quite good.
