rza made the wu what they were with his production. dude is a legend but ive never heard a rapper so hit or miss for me lol but his style kinda lends itself to that imo. machine gun style rapping kinda without a care for the beat.

imo gza was easily the best wu member. sharp lyrics but had that more methodical seeming flow and deep voice.

i love meth too, i got to see him live with redman but dude is a little over rated. i dont hold tical as a semi classic like some ppl tend to do, but i put liquid swords by gza in the all-time rap elite category and i put rae's ob4cl just outside of it.

i got the wu manual, its a book by rza which explains some lyrics and backstory on the wu so pick it up if u get the chance, its pretty cool

Masta Killa is not even mentioned on the list? Masta Killa was one of the best imo, and he's also easily the most slept on. I guess it depends on what you like though. If you're really into street rap then its obviously Ghost and Raekwon. Back then I was really into the metaphysical kung fu sh*t though, and Masta Killa was definitely the best with that style, and he had a good delivery, good flow, good rap voice...which is more than I can say for many members of the Wu.

YES! Masta Killa on a lot of those posse cuts had damn awesome verses. He was like a more metaphorical and laid back (but not quite as good) GZA.

Yeah, listening to them both rhyme on Duel of the Iron Mic you can really compare their styles. Easily two of the strongest lyricist in hip-hop during the 90s (or of all time depending on the criteria). GZA has more complex word play for sure, but Master Killa had a better delivery imo. He's just so methodical with everything he says and always stays right with the beat. GZA will sometimes cram in too many words in a bar, and other bars he won't use enough words so he'll try to stretch them. He also runs out breath sometimes and squeezes out those last few words.

This thing is pretty rad, I can't tell some of the beats but it still sounds nice. Among the ones that sound the best are "Got Your Money" ("You Never Give Me Your Money" as the beat), "Criminology," "Run" (which sounds kinda like the rhythm from Syd Barrett's "Octopus"), and "Save Me Dear." Like I said it's all good, those are some of my favs so far though.

Run is by far my fave on that tape. I think it uses the demo tape or something for "I Am The Walrus".

You lot know the new album is out?

Seen nothing on here about it.

Mondo Bungle 12-03-2014 11:19 AM

The one none of us will ever hear?

WWWP 12-03-2014 01:50 PM

It's ok. Maybe two standout tracks but mostly disappointing. Cool beats, cheesy vibes. Not enough Method Man.

Not the same album.

I'm looking forward to Ghostface's new jam more tbh.

Goofle 12-03-2014 02:22 PM

Hasn't it already been released?

last thing they released that i liked was raekwon's cuban linx 2. though i haven't really listened to any of ghost's new stuff past big doe rehab (which i thought was decent). i heard the single for the album after that and was like **** it. sounds terrible. and that was around the time i stopped listening to hip hop for the longest.

what saddens me is that rza used to be the genuis that really made the group shine... nowadays it seems he holds them back. take raekwon/meth/ghost and you could probably make better music than the full wu with rza in charge. case in point: cuban linx 2.

Goofle 12-04-2014 03:14 AM

Oh man I'd love to see Ghost and Method Man making an album together.

Did you like Wu Massacre? Recall that getting a positive reception at the time but I've not listened to it. 12 Reasons to Die was really boring for me. I switched off this latest Wu Tang album after track five. I'll give it another go but it is very boring tbh.

I'm excited for GZA's new albums though. Dark Matter/Liquid Swords 2. I don't think those will disappoint.

Didn't know Ghostface album was out. On the d/l.

John Wilkes Booth 12-04-2014 10:02 AM

no i haven't heard that either. like i said sort of tuned out for quite a while when it came to any new hip hop releases. i will probably give it a download. won't bother with the wu releases most likely... they haven't put out anything i've liked since the w. might check in on gza / ghost though.

Cuthbert 02-18-2017 07:36 AM

Did anyone hear about their latest album?

No wonder I missed it.

Anyone heard it then?

I wouldn't consider that the latest. A Better Tomorrow is their last album which oddly enough I didn't even know came out and I haven't heard that one.

Cuthbert 02-18-2017 07:55 PM

It's nothing special tbh
