Well, if you regard yourself as a "lame white person", first off I'd say you had low self esteem. Perhaps listening to certain kinds of music reinforces this. Do people enjoy any type of music more when they play it loud with the widows rolled down, and force others to hear it? Should any consideration be given to what kind of message is being sent blasting music with offensive lyrics? Do you think people may regard you as someone who does not give a f*** when you do this? Some things to consider.

Should threads like this really be taken at face value?

They didn't give me a courteous wave or anything and, in fact, all they did was just kinda stare at me. It took me like a full five seconds for me to realize I had Lupe Fiasco blasting out of my subwoofers

THE COOLEST NIGGA, WHAT?! THE COOLEST NIGGA, WHAT?! LORD PLEASE HAVE SYMPATHY AND FORGIVE MY COOL YOUNG HISTORY AS THE COOLEST NIGGA...

Then I drove away in abject shame. What's the solution to this, can I never listen to hip hop in public by the light of day? How do other lame white people deal with this kind of delicate situation?

First of all, I don't know what you being white has to do with it.

Secondly, you're blasting obscentities in front of a family. I don't think you being non-white would make that situation any better.

Third, it sounds like you're headed toward a hearing problem if you don't know how loud your stereo is.

I know I am going to sound like a "dad" here, but for what it's worth, here's my 2 cents. Listening to loud music WILL damage your hearing. Especially headphones and earbuds, which with iPods is what most people listen with. I know some "older" people who don't hear too well anymore, and it's a drag allways having to say things twice to them, so they "get" what you are saying. From what I see, there is going to be lots of these people around, and they will not be old, they will be middle aged. Save your hearing, you will need it. Unless you think you will enjoy having others yell so you can hear them, or worse yet, just leave you out of whats going on. Oh, btw, I realise most people here are teens and twentysomethings (and you don't care, right?) Just wait.

My hearings crap already so it's definitely something i'm thinking about, i'm listening to music quieter and quieter these days.

As someone who listens to a lot of loud stuff this is a bit of a drag.

nice, I was checking to see if somebody posted this. I too thought of this clip the minute I saw the title. Also, I only have 5 rap songs on my iPod but when I blast em in my car I become the lame white guy.

You are smart to "save some (of your hearing) for later". I only crank music on some songs (like right when I get home from work!), but lately I'm more interested in quality than just head banging.

if you crank music, keeping the windows down you won't develop as much hearing loss in the future. As an added benefit everybody on the street gets to hear the crap you listen to... win win!!!

I'm not one to bust music incredibly loud... I have really ****ty car speakers and don't need to blow out my eardrums to hear my tunes when I'm cruising. It's loud enough where you can hear it if I am stopped though, and I do feel a little awkward sometimes when I'm sitting in traffic and two tough lookin black guys pull up next to me and hear me blaring rap. I'm just wonderin what they are thinking cause once in awhile I'll get a weird look, but the funny thing is there's a 99% chance I rap better than them haha

I actually own a Volvo station wagon , and I tend to bang hip hop 90 percent of the time that I'm driving it, so yes, I know the exact feeling you're talking about.
