The Roots, Common, Nas, Mos Def would be good starting points.

I honestly can't stand Mac Miller, don't like his music. I think there's much better acts out there at the moment such as J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar.

forwardmymusic.com

I found a new site that offers a place to post new music for free. It's great because I didn't have to give up my rights. That doesn't happen very often. I took the time to read the terms and it looks legit. Not much traffic on the site yet bit it looks promising::afro:

Papoose | Warm Up Sessions [S6.EP49]: SBTV - YouTube

Papoose freestyling over a Grime beat, this American went in.

The beat was made by Wiley, the original is called 'North London'.

From 1:30 onward it's him over Hip-Hop.

Nope, Drake needs to sit down.

The only good thing about that song was the video.

Sparky 08-19-2013 11:07 PM

idk why i like it tbh

i don't like most of drakes tacky songs but i like that one for some reason. Need some good pop BS every now and then

If you want an uplifting rap artist but at the same time can dominate with that raw energy flow when he wants to someone you should check out is The Jokerr.

For uplifting: youtube(DOT)com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=nf3HUkIpBEw

For straight raw: youtube(DOT)com/watch?v=JOhcISdkE7o

To me music is dead right now but there is some good catchy music out there but nothing that deep that you can feel.

Heard of the duo, OZ?

Those songs are off their debut album, IVL presents: OZ.

They have another album out, Two Fly, haven't heard it yet though.

i can just drop random rap/hip-hop songs here, right? hoping i've got the gist of the thread down

i tried to come up with some songs i've enjoyed that might not have been posted in here, and used the search tool for assistance (no clue if that helped)

100s - my activator
cosmic slop shop - da family
denzel curry - denny cascade
natural elements - i mean this
people without shoes - evil for eternity (remix)

yigga 10-25-2013 07:53 AM

I'm sorry if i dont recommend anything to anyone, but i'm starting to dig hip hop only now. I'm looking for very lighthearted simple stuff, maybe with a touch of sweet sweet melancholy. Something like this:

This song talks about the artist's childhoold, but with nothing sad... i'd say you can perceive some nostalgia but it's never really expressed in words (Example: "I miss the old days, they were so good :(")

I mostly listen to music for the music itself, i rarely focus on the lyrics, keep that in mind. Obviously lighthearted, simple and even "makes-you-want-to-smile" lyrics are preferred.

I'm relatively new to hip hop, but I really love the album The Low End Theory by ATCQ. I particularly like Q-Tip's really smooth style of rapping. Any similar artists?

De La Soul, The Pharcyde, and any conscious rap from the early to mid 90's specifically more of the east coast/ny scene.

Sparky 11-22-2013 04:24 PM
