I'd love to hear some weird/quirky/experimental rap that I've never heard before. New or old, it doesn't matter, I just want something unique.

storymilo 04-25-2011 08:48 PM

I know this isn't what you are really looking for but have you heard Diggy Simmon's mixtape Airborne?

I haven't heard it but based on these two songs it is definitely not at all what I am looking for.

I had to play it three times back to back. Love it!

Kirby 05-04-2011 12:58 PM

Busta Rhymes absolutely killed it.
On that note, his verses have been pretty damn good lately. I want his next album to come out.

Sparky 05-04-2011 05:56 PM

Busta is consistently good on other people's tracks, however haven't cared for his last few releases

Kirby 05-04-2011 06:00 PM

I loved his last album, honestly.

Agreed. I went into his last album thinking that it was going to be another mediocre offering but it really caught me by surprise.

CanwllCorfe 05-06-2011 11:13 PM

Thanks for anyone who gave me reccomendations! I don't feel like going back and quoting them, because I honestly don't know how long ago it was. All I know is I found solace in this song:

Although the rest of the album didn't quite have what I was looking for. And for anyone confused, I asked for dark stuff. Me likey dark stuff! But I listen to all of it.

I'd recommend signing up to last.fm really, that'll give you a non-stop suppy of hip-hop artists.

but personally I'd recommend you Blue & Exile.

If you haven't checked out Mos Def you should do that. Also try A Tribe Called Quest, earlyish Outkast, MF Doom and Gang Starr.

PS J Dilla

Also try Rhymefest, he didn't really get noticed much but definitely worth checking out.

So, I'm completely ignorant when it comes to Hip Hop and rap. Where do I start and what are the essential albums of the genre?
