Nicki Minaj

Do you love her or hate her? I feel her Massive Attack single is straight hell, but her first two mixtapes, Sucka Free and Beam Me Up Scotty, are pretty decent. I'm a little iffy if she really will be the next big female rapper. Any thoughts?

Thrice 10-09-2010 03:00 PM

I think she has a unique style and I enjoy her some of her verses, but not too sure about hearing more than that. I think she looks pretty good as well.

Kirby 10-18-2010 01:19 AM

She looks good, but sounds pretty terrible.

poohbear 10-19-2010 04:02 PM

Nicki minaj is the bomb

DevonWilliams 10-19-2010 05:20 PM

Honestly, I think she got signed mainly based on her body.

Dirty 10-19-2010 11:49 PM

I'd rail her.

Not saying much though, I'd probably give it to just about any female artist.

Haven't listened to much of her mixtape stuff, just her radio songs. She's ok, her crazy persona is a little over the top for me. I thought she was trying too hard at the VMAs. Lyrically I don't think she's great, but she has good production and Young Money and MTV are basically using each other to make tons of money and promote people like her.

someonecompletelyrandom 10-20-2010 12:04 AM

I can't stand her accents. They're grating. "Oywn" for "on" = cringe.

cube-fish 10-20-2010 10:35 PM

Her verse on "monster" from Kanye's G.o.o.d. Fridays series is huge.
Also she doesnt have an album out...I think thats the test of an artist is the quality of their Lp.

Phinjoe 10-21-2010 01:36 PM

@cube-fish: I agree, Minaj's verse on Monster is awesome (the best on the song). Her singles have been awful, but when I hear Monster or Drake's "Up All Night", I see such promise. She is legitimately funny and witty, and has a real comic edge to her rapping that doesn't detract from her overall image.

I think that Nicki Minaj can't really be judged yet because she hasn't released an album. Everyone thought Kid Cudi was dope until Man on the Moon came out (which was good, but not the era-defining album people thought it was going to be)

Sparky 11-15-2010 07:09 AM

Pull up in the monster
Automobile gangster
With a bad b-tch that came from Sri Lanka
Yeah I’m in that Tonka, colour of Willy Wonka
You could be the King but watch the Queen conquer
Ok first things first I’ll eat your brains
Then I’mma start rocking gold teeth and fangs
Casue that’s what a muthaf-cking monster do
Hairdresser from milan, thats what monster do
Monster Giuseppe heel that’s the monster shoe
Young money is the roster and the monster crew
And I’m all up all up all up in the bank with the funny face
And if I’m fake I aint notice cause my money aint
So let me get this straight wait I’m the rookie
But my features and my shows ten times your pay
50k for a verse no album out!
Yeah my money’s so tall that my barbie’s gotta climb it
Hotter than a middle eastern climate
Find it 20 mataran dutty whine it
While it, nicki on a pit while I sign it
How these n-ggas so one-track minded
But really really I don’t give a F-U-C-K
Forget barbie f-ck nicki she’s fake
She’s on a diet but my pockets eating cheese cake
And I’ll say boy the Chucky is Child’s play
Just killed another career it’s a mild day
Besides ‘Ye they can’t stand besides me
I think me, you and (?) menage friday
Pink wig thick ass give em whip lash
I think big get cash make em blink fast
Now look at what you just saw I think this is what you live for
Aaahhhh, I’m a muthaf-cking monster!

The verse on Monster sounds good when you hear it the first time, but the more i listen the less i like it. She has the delivery down, but no really funny punchlines or anything

one danger might be she gets a bit too caught up in the "qwerky" vibe and end up being the lady gaga of hip-hop.
and yes most importantly to us males, she is stupendously hot.

niki minaj is GORGEOUS!!! and who cares if shes quirky? i think thats part of whats so great about her! its very obvious that she doesnt try overly hard to make her rapping style "sexy" like alot of other female rappers. but regardless of that she still IS undeniably sexy! (im straight btw) and shes beast at what she does :)

someonecompletelyrandom 11-15-2010 01:58 PM

She's completely grown on me now. I really wish Pink would hurry up and come out. (And I really hope the producers from Young Money stay away from it)

Goblin Tears 11-15-2010 02:44 PM

I love Minaj's part in this song;

Braveheart 11-15-2010 10:08 PM

Shes unique but i cant stand her singing. Even with autotune you can't fix that. She needs to stay to rapping.

denden 11-16-2010 01:09 AM

nicky is dope............................YM 4LIFE!

ravenRAWRRR 11-20-2010 08:03 PM

im sorry, but who WOULDNT love her? :)

I can't say it was worth the end result...

I love her, and I love the crazy way she raps. I love when I watch her in interviews and that she's normal. Not like Lady Gaga where she's ****ing annoying everywhere I see her. Like sometimes I love Gaga, she's fun to watch. But I think she's rude during interviews, and I think she tries too hard to be a weird ass.

Nicki Minaj has almost another persona when she's rapping or performing, and I love her for that. I feel like music and performing allows you to do that.

Really she switches personas all the time. During mid-verse, even mid-line, she can turn into someone else completely. That's pretty cool.

Arya Stark 11-23-2010 07:04 PM

I love her in Monster because I love how she changes her voice and everything.
And in that one song where she completely changes her accent.

And I just watched another one of her interviews. Horrible quality. You can hear cars and a baby crying in the background. But she is so real. So real.

sy662 11-29-2010 12:22 PM

Not been a fan of the features she's been doing, but her new album goes hard. I can't front.

Arya Stark 11-29-2010 02:18 PM

I love her new album, I've been listening to it whenever I get a chance for the past two days. :D

Dirty 11-29-2010 02:29 PM

I think her verses are pretty good in Right Thru Me, but she could end her verses stronger. Catchy song though

Goblin Tears 11-29-2010 04:22 PM

Good rapper...been listening to Pink Friday and it's pretty good. Your Love is actually one of the weakest tracks on it...

coco83 11-29-2010 04:25 PM

luv her

Which ones do you like the most?
I haven't decided yet, I like some mostly for the beat like "Did it on'em" That song makes me want to go clubbing.
And "I'm The Best" has a cool message in some of the verses but I'm not feeling it really.
"Fly," "Moment for Life," and "Roman's Revenge" are all really good, probably because there's so much diversity with the artists.
"Save Me" is great, and she has a good voice too! I love when artists can slow it down, it shows she doesn't think she's 100% bad ass bitch 100% of the time, and I feel the same about "Dear Old Nicki."
"Last Chance" I know is really good but I can't remember much about it right now.

All of the others I can't remember or are singles already that most of us have heard. It's an amazing album though, there's not one song I skip.

Actually... I think she said that in one of her songs...

Hitting_Singularity 12-02-2010 09:51 PM

I just listened to Pink Friday for the first time- on the last track right now

I must say I really like it already so I think it will probably be one of my favorite albums of the year after a bit more listening.

tracks that stand out after the first time
Did It On 'em - unique and catchy chorus,
the whole album just proves even more that she is a great rapper, with lyrics as well as flow (rhythm of the rap)
Check It Out - the only real straight up pop-club song on the album, but I think it is very well done, produced by will I assume, which can be a hit or miss for me but this was a hit

I agree with you, Sugar, fly, moment of life and Roman's Revenge are really good and the whole album overall - I don't ever skip tracks but I wouldn't be tempted lol

TheBig3 12-03-2010 08:05 AM

Easily the most over-hyped, will-be flash-in-the-pan artist i've seen in awhile.

1. Whats with the ****ing accents? Are you Sri-Lanken, British, Naw Leans? Pick one, but you're coming off like the sound effects guy from Police Academy.

2. I heard Lil' Wayne wrote that Monster piece for her. Truth?

3. Shes got decent flow, i'll give you that but I don't think she's got the stuff to carry an album.

4. As for the "best on the track" for her monster verse, the other people mailed that **** in. You'd be lying if you said she was better then Kayne and Jay-Z.

5. She strikes me as an artist out of time. She's really late 90's to me. The stupid amount of hype without substance, the constant talk about money, the fact that shes with Cash Money. Its a time I'd like to forget anyways.

6. I agree with her being hot. I'd hit that constantly.

I love her accents.
Who cares if someone wrote ONE verse for her? Am I missing something? Did she say she wrote it herself?
I really like her, I think she can carry an album.
She's not better than Jay-Z. I just hate Kanye in general, and I can't bring myself to give him respect even if he deserves it.
She is so hot. I want to marry her.

On top of all of that, I read a lot of stuff and also listened to her song and Lil Kim's when they were having that whole battle on which of them is better, threatening to kill each other and stuff. Go look it up, I'm not on my computer and it would take too long to try to figure out embedding and copying and pasting and everything (it's a Mac). Look up the argument, tell me who you agree with. I for one, think Nicki Minaj was incredibly rude in the things she said and I think Lil Kim had every right to say the things she said.

1. She's from Tinidad. Seeing as nobody can understand her natural accent, all of her rapping is fake accents so you can't say she is at fault for switching around.

2. the Monster verse sounds like much of her other stuff, so I doubt lil Wayne wrote it, but who knows (who cares)

3. Once again, listen to the album then say that.

4. I never liked Jay-Z OR Kanye, their producing is OK, Kanye is an amazing producer, but they are both crappy rappers IMO (Shoot me :ar_15s:)

5. She has some heartfelt songs on the album. Once again, listen to it.

plus this video just rocks

ericcloud 12-03-2010 04:35 PM

As much as I don't enjoy her "swagga" she is not a bad rapper at all

TheBig3 12-03-2010 07:17 PM

I don't know what the both of you are so pissy about. And singularity, you can't say Jay-Z sucks then post a song with will.i.am in it and say it rocks without losing your cred-card.

Jester 12-03-2010 09:28 PM

^ How are they being pissy?

I disagree with them (I disagree with you too), but they're not being pissy.

haha can't argue with that.

still think it's true tho

What have you listened to by Jay-Z?

Hitting_Singularity 12-04-2010 12:48 AM

honestly, not much. Give me 5 songs I should listen to, I'll see if my mind changes

She's not better than Jay-z or Kanye, but she nailed that fucking verse. I'll give her props for that. IMO, it was the best verse on that track.
