Riff Raff occupies a completely different realm of rap, dude.. there's a huge difference between someone who's just rapping to rhyme and someone who's rapping about silly things. Riff Raff's not just kicking rhymes that say nothing and just rhyme, it's not just a series of nonsensical rhymes, he actually has punchlines and imagery..

Riff Raff has a better sense of humor than all of you guys put together..

but to Sparky, you wanna see absolute nonsense? did you guys see that debate between Dirt Nasty and Riff Raff?

Bill Brasky doin' things with the English language that i can't even wrap my head around.. it's mad amusing

Jester 05-13-2012 10:58 PM

not as good as Timmy O'Toole, but gotta show love to Jody Highroller..

Riff Raff da gawd

he's so interesting in his videos and his music.. that's why James Franco's gonna play a character based on Riff Raff in a movie directed by Harmony fucking Korine.. that's the dude right there. and he wanted Riff Raff, but Riff Raff said he couldn't fit it into his schedule, so James Franco took it up.

the more you dig through hit shit the more fun you're gonna have with it..

Somehow watching that video + learning that James Franco is going to play a character based on the guy in a movie directed by Harmony Korine is not selling me on the idea that his music is worth anything.

Jester 05-13-2012 11:08 PM

and did any of you guys listen to Time and watch the video? the video is a trip.. and you guys act like he's just being generic and trashy?

that first verse is dope and unexpectedly heartfelt from Riff Raff..

Quote:

sometimes i feel
feel like my time has past
like i'm an hourglass
and the sand is moving fast
in this life i live
my dad is my best friend
but it seems like i never call him unless i need some money...
ain't that something?
the people all around me
i mean the ones that i do have
it's like they're here today, but they'll probably be gone tomorrow...
when it's rainin' hard and
my car breaks down
i've got no one to call on
(except triple a)
second verse is just as good

that guy goes from writing a song like that with a slow, singy flow that fits his twangy southern accent while making good use of echoing vocals to straight ripping the mic on Bird on a Wire over lush, spacious horns, to swag rap over the slush-rubber bounce of Brain Freeze to a straight up hip hop joint on Larry Bird.. rapping in different styles on all of them but always on point, with original rhymes and sometimes funny, sometimes absurd, sometimes just stylish lyrics.. and you guys write him off because he has a BET tattoo.. weak.

Timmy O'Toole video > Jody Highroller video

and it's just a commentary on people with artistic credibility seeing that Riff Raff's an interesting character

i don't know why you guys can't find the amusement in someone's weird ass head trip..

Engine 05-13-2012 11:13 PM

I didn't say I'm not amused.

Dude you gotta try to not be so infatuated with this guy. They make up BS headlines like this all the time for hype, remember when lil b was doing an album with Jay Electronica?

Franco says his Spring Breakers character is not based on Riff Raff, and that Harmony Korine never offered Riff Raff a role in the film. He tells GQ:

None of that’s true. I’ll tell you why he could have never been offered the role. Harmony (Korine, the movie’s writer and director) and I were talking about doing a movie together before Spring Breakers was even conceived. I had been a fan of his work and he wanted to do something and I said, “I’ll do anything with you.” We started discussing ideas and one day he sent me a treatment, which he said he’s never done before, just to run it by me…And then he wrote the script. So there’s no chance Riff Raff could have been offered the role.

that's why his music is worth something

like i've said.. if you dig through it more that amusement will blow up. especially when you start catching the consistencies in the subject matter of his lyrics.. he's not aimless like people are making him out to be.

explore your guilty pleasures, thinking they're meaningless is a value misjudgment

If he stars in a sketch comedy show or something I'll probably watch it gleefully but his rap thing is just not doing it for me.

okay, fair enough, hadn't seen the updated version of the article, but Franco still goes on to say that they did watch Riff Raff videos as inspiration while filming, and Franco's character looks a lot like Riff Raff, but i guess they took more influence from local rapper names Dangerous

i don't mind being wrong about that, and i don't think it takes anything away from Riff Raff, just me being wrong in those guys liking him enough for a movie role. oh well.

but "dude you gotta try to not be so infatuated with this guy."

what the hell? i enjoy it.. that's kind of a rude thing to say to someone about something they like.
