DJ_Jester 02-24-2004 03:06 PM

Who could forget any of the Mad Rapper skits on the Biggie or, back then, Puff Daddy albums.

Ante_Up 02-25-2004 08:50 PM

The tourture one at the begining of Method Man

Rockafella Skank 02-25-2004 09:16 PM

I was trying to think up one myself, but yeah the Method Man skin is clearly the best ever.

DJ_Jester 02-25-2004 10:43 PM

Hell yeah! I remember that one... Feeding you and FEEDin you and FEEDin you!

Edgil 02-26-2004 07:21 AM

i like his positive energy, sounds like he really wants to better society :)

Dr. Luncheon Man 02-28-2004 01:45 AM

Yeah, That torture skit was gold. I also like the skits on "3 feet high and Rising" and Ugly Duckling - Meat Shake is pretty funny too.

phriz_b 09-23-2004 12:29 AM

Im nt really a big fan of skits but there was one i had that had me lmao. I cant remember what track it is but on Kanye West album 'The College Drop' there is one where some dude is sayin 'If u kiss enuff ass u will b promoted to the secretarys secretary' lol i find it quite funny myself

Dr_Rez 09-26-2008 01:45 AM

Paul Rosenberg Skit - Eminem Show

After that probably the ones on Ludacris's Word of Mouf and Del's Deltron 3030.

SwayBreezy 09-26-2008 10:41 AM

I always loved the Chinese Resaurant skit on The Fugees The Score album. "You think I opened a Chinese Restaurant in the middle of the hood and don't know what's goin on? I will show you flying fists of Judo!!" I laugh every time.

Damn you for getting to that before me. That one always killed me. I walk around saying "you want beef?" and no one gets the reference, its kinda depressing.

Anyway the best skit is the one on the Marshall Mathers LP, The Ken Kaniff skit where he has Violent J and 2 Dope taking turns giving him head. I'm sure that pissed ICP off to the fullest.

Kirby 09-26-2008 02:22 PM

Elbow Macaroni [Skit] - Tech N9ne

I thought it was pretty funny.

Janszoon 09-26-2008 03:15 PM

Is there even such a thing as a good hip-hop skit? I find myself lunging for the skip button every time one comes on.

When there funny its worth it. But your somewhat right, most are boring and pointless.

Perfect answer. I can't stand them either.

Piss Me Off 09-26-2008 03:46 PM

Yeah i'm not big on skits, though i do like that Fugees chinese restaurant one :D

jackhammer 09-26-2008 03:49 PM

Gulp...The Fugees ;)

Piss Me Off 09-26-2008 03:52 PM

I still maintain that if its dinner party music it's the best dinner party music ever :D

Even on the off chance that the skit is funny (which honestly I can't think of a single example of) it's probably the kind of thing that's only going to make you laugh the first time you hear it. After that it turns into a an old joke you've already heard that you're probably just going to skip past.

Again you are right, but some skits are used to link an album together. And if your like a lot of the members here at musicbanter, or just someone who listens to music by album then many of the skits are as important as the songs themselves.

ex: I know this is a cliche example but on DSOTM there are many points in which no music is played and there is just a break between songs. But without that i think the album would be lacking.

No that would be Portishead :D

As for skits, they were what my fast forward button was made for.

I think if you sat down and listened to DSOTM right now you'd be surprised by how little of it is like what you describe, and none of it involves Roger Waters making dumb jokes. There's nothing wrong with having little interludes of some kind between songs. As you say it can help link the songs together. But how many hip-hop skits can you think of that really move the album along?

By skits do you actually mean like people talking and making jokes..? Or just anything thats not music and fills space between songs.

Fruitonica 09-27-2008 07:10 AM

Skits have to be very punchy, otherwise I'll just skip them, even if they were funny the first time. Fishscale by Ghostface Killah is a perfect example of an album that is weighed down heavily by so many pointless skits...

Well, the word "skit" definitely implies people talking and that certainly seems to be the case on most hip-hop albums. But for argument's sake we can certainly expand the discussion to include any non-musical interlude between songs.

When you we're talking about DSOTM I was assuming you were referring to non-musical interludes in general, not specifically ones with people talking.

Well this is the "favorite skit" thread.

Droppin'Science 09-29-2008 05:36 PM

yup, the fugees one is hilarious. I also like the ones on the Juvenile 400 Degreez album: where Baby meets a Japanese dude in the lineup. "Back the line UP! you beetch!" and "Baby? There ees no baby here!" lol. did anyone catch those ones?

and the last Erik Sermon album, jackin' for rhymes, where the dude's like "gimme all your sixteens, i don't want your jewellry!" lol

The Aqua Teen Hunger Force dialouge on the Dangerdoom album can be pretty entertaining when I'm in the mood for it.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa... Why is she, "Black Debby"?
No not in a BADDD way It's just you call tell them apart because she's....*Black*

Yeah, I'm not really a fan of most skits on albums- but Adult Swim is good stuff on any medium.
