my original post was a question. not an opinion. Thats why there was a question mark at the end. Just wanted peoples thoughts. It wasnt about being right or wrong. Discussion dont have to be about right or wrong, just about perspective

Well hopefully you've gained some perspective.

My opinion, without saying something that's too complex/nuanced, is that ignorant/knowledgeable, stupid/intelligent, etc. are basically category errors for art.

Artworks aren't people being IQ-tested or tested on what information they've acquired and retained about anything. And one can't assume that artworks are straightforward, transparent confessionals by artists. Even when artworks have elements of that to them, they're usually not only that, and the confessional stuff is difficult to sort out unless one knows the artist intimately, and then sometimes not even then. One also can't assume that any artwork is only presenting what it superficially or "literally" appears to be presenting.

RTJ is not popular around here. They are just on the popular side of the underground like Atmosphere.

djchameleon 09-21-2016 04:49 PM

RTJ is popular enough, they headline music festivals.

They are definitely popular around my area which is sort of your area so stop lying.

They played at fucking Governer's Ball bro.

Afaic, if you're not getting radio play, you're not popular.

Frownland 09-22-2016 09:31 AM

RTJ2 charted at 50 on Billboard 100. I'm sure it got played on a radio station or two.

Would you agree that what is and isn't "popular" is also changing? F. ex. if we based things off of last.fm charts and the like.
