Default The Slim Shady and Marshall Mathers LPs were great but clearly Relapse was the best

Because Eminem was always a Detroit horrorcore rapper who was vastly better than his contemporaries, but he's still a Detroit horrorcore rapper and Relapse was his only true horrorcore release. And not only that, but it was his most realized version of his Slim Shady persona, while also being a left-wing realization of his whole career that was made his most relevant because it was a metaphor for his drug frenzy (i.e. his most ****ed up personal period) and the more ****ed up he is the better he is.

And those Dre beats are just the sickest.

Hands down the best horrorcore song ever made. The imagery and atmosphere are on an absolute other level.

And this is the best ether he ever made for his bitch whore **** mother.

Honestly I'd say that Relapse could have potentially justified horrorcore as a genre. In general it's just rappers having fun being bargain basement Slayer, but on Relapse Eminem is using horrorcore lyrics as a metaphor for his catharsis as a recovering drug addict and the horrible person it made him. If more horrorcore rappers could use violent lyrics as a metaphor for their own feelings about their self-perception rather than just a fun release of testosterone then it might be elevated beyond a two-dimensional outlet for early-twenty somethings either "peaking" to no effect or evolving to something entirely different.

You’re making some great points selling that album.

And if you want to hear Eminem being a legitimate ****bag who may or may not realize just how awful the song makes him out to be then listen to the song where he absolutely kills Mariah Carey for breaking up with him in a relationship she won't even admit. Not horrorcore, but it succeeds in making him sound like a lunatic who might actually irl be nuts, and I can't be sure it wasn't intentionally self-destructive. Actually I'm pretty sure he does realize and is just scourging himself like a Catholic monk. Some of those lyrics are horrorcore approved though.
