My ex once tried to explain to me how someone in one of her classes who painted the entire canvas red had actually done something brilliant cause of what that red canvas symbolized.

Silly c*nt.

I think you're allowed to call anything made by human expression "art", just as long as I'm allowed to critique it and most likely call it "pretentious drivel that resembles a turd".

their philosophy was quite interesting

literally everyone had the capacity to create the greatest works of art, what they ironically lacked, was the ability to appreciate these arts

how exciting it must have been to find yourself on the cusp of one of these movements that "figured it out", that had such a bold statement to make

Anyone trying to dictate what art must be or pin any definitive indicator of quality on it doesn't understand art.

I don't think the point of art is anything further than expression

anything you do that's not strictly for survival or procreation

so I wouldn't tell someone else whether they "understand" Art, but they may not understand the goal of a certain kind of art

in the case of the above "Blue Triangle Black Square" it's a vehicle for communist thought that turned out to be very influential

if you're looking at it to be wow'd by something you're like inherently missing it
