The Black Keys (alternative, blues, indie, rock, favorite band)

Bump

I've been listening to Attack & Release a lot lately...good stuff! I like it more than any of their other stuff.

Should check out Radio Moscow as well...Dan Auerbach(from The Black Keys) produced their debut album(released in 2007)...Crazy stuff! Seems more like 30 years back.

I like Attack & Release as well. I think the change in sound was needed, their older stuff was beginning to sound the same. Magic Potion and Rubber Factory are still my favorite.

What's there to flame? Granted, you can tell Danger Mouse has influenced their sound on here a bit, but generally I think Attack & Release is a step forward for them, and there are plenty of songs that could fit into any of their old albums. The variation of style on A&R is refreshing. Like I said before, it doesn't end up all sounding the same.

It was alright, but I had only liked a couple songs on this release and it just didn't real stand out that much. That doesn't mean I didn't like it, it's just that I really didn't see anything special is all.

anyone who doesn't think the Black Keys are amazing is just deaf in my book. I saw them live and they were amazing. as far as the lack of bass, I never even noticed, probably due to the distortion of the lead guitar in most songs. guess I just like good music whether it has bass or not. Radiohead has plenty of bass and still manage to bore the crap out of me.

The new album has grown on me a bit, but I highly doubt it'll be a personal favorite. Could someone give me "Thickfreakness" please? It would be much appreciated.

but you have to look at the music a lot of people on here like as well. i think a lot of people seeing the black keys don't even know who or what they are about except they know they are "kinda indie". They are a blues rock outfit and nothing more. if you are a hipster emo nerd you aren't going to like them in concert. nothing wrong with that. just a matter of taste. I can't tell you how many people there didn't know to cheer when good songs were coming on and didn't even have a clue what songs the keys were covering when they were covering it. too many people are about the scene rather than the music. i remember them covering a Captain Beefheart song and half the crowd had no clue what it was. a crowd can make or break a performance and I have a feeling most people who complain about seeing them live just don't understand blues rock or were in crappy crowds. luckily, in mine there were enough good fans to make the crowd awesome. but that is D.C. and why it is the best place to see a band, because D.C. crowds know music better than any crowd.

oh and i love that quote you have up. that is hilarious.

edit: and ornette said he saw them twice and liked them. I seriously don't believe some people who say they sucked live actually saw them. I haven't seen so few people own a stage as well except for when I saw Kanye.

I don't know much about them and i had heard from multiple people that their live shows were unexciting, so...yeah
