Alan Davey (Hawkwind) is hard as nails!

Reggae Joe 01-27-2006 03:12 PM

I'll go with Jack Bruce of Cream, or Jaco Pastorius. Always my top two favorites.

The_Juke 01-27-2006 03:15 PM

I just got turned on to Jaco Pastorius by the band I interviewed last week. He is awesome, not really my style of music but there is no denying the man was brilliant.

I am of course a huge Rush fan, so Geddy Lee is still the best in my book.

judas_priest 01-27-2006 04:13 PM

^ Yeah I second that.
Rush are amazing and Geddy is really talented. Playing the bass, keyboard and singing at the same time is so cool.

Also, Steve Harris- I'm a huge Maiden fan
Lemmy from motorhead

and Cliff Burton was really talented too.

Jaco is great. I Bootsy is good too. Same with Flea

jazzfromhell 01-27-2006 07:20 PM

Charles Mingus, Peter Hook and Kim Deal (not the most technically amazing bassists, but their lines were killer), Scott LeFaro, Stanley Clarke.

sleepy jack 01-27-2006 07:21 PM

Les Claypool
Flea

Seltzer 01-27-2006 11:14 PM

Rock/Metal Favourites:
Flea (RHCP), Les Claypool (Primus), Steve Harris (Iron Maiden), Dirk Lance (Incubus), Geddy Lee (Rush), Tony Choy (Atheist), Tony Levin (King Crimson)
Tim Commerford (RATM), JPJ (Led Zep), John Entwistle (The Who)and the list goes on...

Other Favourites: Jaco Pastorius, Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller, Stu Hamm, James Jamerson

So overall, my fav bassist ever would have to be Flea.

MURDER JUNKIE 01-27-2006 11:18 PM

Totally off topic but the bass line in Danzig's Devil's Plaything is BADASS!!!

I'm listening to it right now

T-U-F-F :bringit:

Levithan 01-28-2006 06:11 AM

Tere is no best bassist ever really, but some of the greats are Jaco Pastorius and Geddy Lee. Cliff Burton was good on Anesthesia. Flea and Les Claypool are good at slap bass. Marcus Miller also.

Steve Harris deserves FAR more respect then he gets, anywhere he's not only a superiror bassist in metal, but for any type of music, for that matter...

Agreed. I listed him as one of my favourites. he's very talented and Maiden are a great band

TheBig3 01-30-2006 08:00 PM

I hear the guy from Rancid is actually really talented.

Cliff Burton will melt your face, in my opinion, he is the reason that Metal is as high end as it is, well, at least 1/3rd the reason.

Expletive Deleted 01-30-2006 09:21 PM

Dave Allen, Peter Hook, Matt Safer.

Shooting Star 01-30-2006 09:31 PM

Flea mebbe? I don't know really. Twiggy Ramirez is pretty good.

Laces Out Dan! 01-30-2006 10:58 PM

Geddy Lee

Matt Freeman (Rancid) is a good punk bassist. I wouldn't say he's amazing though. Listen to the bass solo in Maxwell Murder for a taste.

Merkaba 02-01-2006 01:37 PM

Tim Commerford for me thanks.

Muzak Geek 02-02-2006 05:19 PM

Gotta go with Les Claypool or Paul McCartney.

SimeyC 05-24-2006 06:09 AM

Jack Bruce has to be up there....then there's Geddy Lee - very underrated...

PostPsychosis 05-24-2006 10:37 AM

Geezer Butler, and John Paul Jones a close second.

Stone Magnet 05-24-2006 10:41 AM

Paul McCartney
Geezer Butler
Scott Reeder
Cliff Burton
Al Cisneros
Les Claypool
Tim Commerford
Justin Chancellor

MURDER JUNKIE 05-24-2006 11:02 AM

bass players recieve pussy only after the rest of the band, the roadies and the driver of the bus have recieved theirs

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-24-2006 11:07 AM

I`ll say Sid Vicious on account of the fact he was the first to realise people didn`t give a toss about bassists so just did random stuff to keep the crowd entertained.

MURDER JUNKIE 05-24-2006 11:09 AM

I'm with you, stupid instrument.
