I had my Petrucci phase. His saving grace, I.E. why he's so much better than other technical shredders, is that he has GREAT melodic ability. But watching him play...=/ he always has this look on his face like "hey, I'm better than you will ever possibly be"
I mean, watch the G3 DVD with Vai, Sach, and him. It's just unfullfilling. DT is very impressive, being a drummer I know this as well as anyone. The ability to go through so many time signatures so fast is rare and incredible, but that doesn't make it satisfying. And for a band or music to be great it must be satisfying and enjoyable, not simply technically masterful. Just my opinion. |
