When did DOWN-Nola become Metalcore .... LOL

I've heard some tracks from that one, was sounding pretty good.
I only have the self titled and Manipulator.

In regards to the metalcore list, it comes from a big list of recommended albums that me and another guy drew up a year or so back on another forum. I've never been into metal much so he handled genres such as metalcore, post-metal, death metal, thrash, doom, sludge and whatnot.
I've been thinking of reviving a similar post on here. As for why certain albums are included, they must surely have elements of metalcore, he's a bit anal about genre classification. Not saying anyone here is wrong either, but I usually take his word for it.
Although looking at the list I'd classify the strapping young lad album as industrial, the others in dispute I haven't actually heard :laughing:

Also, as for why only the deluxe edition, I have absolutely no scooby :laughing:

SYL are a hard band to label because it starts a **** fit. Point out that SYL uses dynamics to emphasize heaviness like your average Nu Metal outfit, and people flip the **** out 'cuz oh my god, the nu-metal tag gives you aids. They aren't "alternative metal", 'cuz, well, in my opinion that's just a high highfalutin way of saying nu metal.

Now, in the late 90s or what have you SYL were obviously not metalcore. But what about since that genre blew up and popular bands of the genre began using dynamics such like nu metal bands did?

So, yeah. Metalcore.

op here, i ****ing love the fall of troy. They're so chaotic yet they still somehow keep in harmony with one another. They know their way around their instruments pretty well too.

I think Protest the Hero is probably better than FoT in every possible way.

I've never really understood the post-hardcore label as it was mentioned earlier in this thread. Fall of Troy is supposedly post-hardcore, but I've frequently seen Attack Attack get the label too. Then there are the good post-hardcore bands like Touche Amore, At The Drive-In, Glassjaw, (maybe Titlefight?), which make the most sense to me (like post-metal, but for hardcore punk, usually more experimental and melodic).

The way I see it, Fall of Troy is just metalcore/mathcore. Attack Attack is just metalcore/crabcore/sh*tcore.

If something could be described as post-hardcore, it doesn't really belong on Rock&Metal. I'm just pointing that out so yet another genre doesn't get ignored due to association with Attack Attack and the like. Post-hardcore has some great bands and is worth looking into. Attack Attack is just metalcore that has been even further watered down and mixed with Nintendo sounds. They take the emo aspects in the wrong direction (lyrics and image don't help). If someone knows why they and other trancecore/crabcore bands are classified as post-hardcore, please enlighten me.

Metalcore has some great bands, some of which have already been mentioned. Since the genre is so broad it is going to be full of terrible acts, hence the hate it gets. Since nu metal is pretty much extinct, metalcore is going to inherit all the hate.

Are you talking about "Attack Attack!", or "Attack! Attack!"? Anyway, I'll check out Protest the Hero if you think they are worthy challengers of The Fall of Troy.

I'd say the band that closest resembles Fall of Troy is The Blood Brothers. In terms of chaotic harmony.

Honestly, I realize how little talent attack attack has, but there's just some indescribable thing I like about them. Maybe its the electronic influences they're music. However their lack of talent is honestly over exagerated. Listening to a lot of their songs I think breakdowns are mostly out of choice than limitations due to lack of talent, because breakdowns are an important part of metalcore. If you're in a metalcore band you pretty much have to write breakdowns, it's pretty much law.

There is no way Protest the Hero is better than The Fall of Troy. As pure, technical musicians? Maybe. But not as a collective group. Doppelganger is far superior as an album to anything Protest has released.
