Why were you banned from progarchives?

I'm a member, but i don't post there any more, too many jerks.

Plus some of my least favorite prog bands were the ones that got most of the attention....

Like Dream Theater. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y28...ons/hanged.gif

It's either rock or it isn't.

Sound determines what you genre you're in. Not lyrics. Some genres have a signature type of lyrics but most definitely are not limited to that style and is it not the only genre capable of putting out those kind of lyrics.

It could take me forever to figure out how to correctly word this so I'll just shoot.
Every genre has a particular sound that seperates it from all the others. The exception is when you're comparing sub genres or pop, which I'll leave alone cause. . .
The fact is, sometimes lyrics can definitely help determine to what genre a particular band or song belongs to.
In the case of Aiden I personally think they're emo or. . . . rock.

Peace

bungalow 06-17-2006 11:03 PM

Aiden is not emo, you are a ****ing idiot if you believe that.
Saetia, CTTS, DDISTBD, Welcome, The Plauge Year, Hot Cross, pg. 99, orchid, indian summer. Those are emo bands. Not aiden, or any band like them.

swim 06-17-2006 11:05 PM

Vocal aproach has a greater affect at establishing a genre than lyrics. ie: punk, grunge, metal, emo, ska. There's a huge range of topics discussed by each genre but, they sometimes share a similar vocal aproach. You'll never convince me that Aiden is emo. If you took the time to browse around in our emo forum you'd understand.

you obviously didn't finish reading my post because if you did, it does say or rock.

And further more if having an opinion different from yours makes me a ****ing idiot in your eyes then I feel sorry for you. I imagine it must be hard being so ignorant and narrow minded.

Urban Hat€monger ? 06-17-2006 11:15 PM

Wow this thread turned to shit pretty quickly.

Can`t resisit a genre arguement can ya

Urban Hat€monger ? 06-17-2006 11:16 PM

And who the fuck are Aiden?

swim 06-17-2006 11:16 PM

I'm sorry but it's blatant fact that aiden is not emo. Even some dirt stupid scene kid at my school knows that.

If your user name was Raein that would be cool because they actually are emo.

Urban I hate to do this to you but here
http://www.purevolume.com/aiden
(they don't even think they're emo)

I found where this thread started go in the craper.

See, that's why i just stopped posting.

Too many people there bash punk and other genres, and then say they're open minded because they like prog.

Ha, i remember one time when a bunch of prog fans (including myself) hijacked a punk forum because that paticular site featured a big article bashing prog and the admin posted some angry hate mail he got for the article.

It was pretty funny, i didn't register there to bash punk since it's obvious i like punk, i was defending the genre and explaining my dislike for the article... Though some prog fans called punk music talentless crap and then called punk fans closed minded.

There was hypocrisy spewing from both sides, it was ridiculous.... Wish there were more prunkers in the world. :(

It's not that I think Aiden. In all homesty I would like to call themr ock but there's something about them that just makes me think emo. Just one of those things.

Peace

OK so why are they not emo?
They sound exactly the same as the other 200 bands people post links to

bungalow 06-17-2006 11:26 PM

They sound nothing like an emo band.
www.myspace.com/circletakesthesquare

They don't even resemble that band.

www.myspace.com/hotcross
or that one

F*ck, the don't even scream for more than 3 seconds.

swim 06-17-2006 11:26 PM

If anything they're wanna be metalcore but not emo.

I've decided they're rockcore.

Are YOU kidding?
You do realize that this "pissed off singer" is essentially what makes screamo, screamo. SCREAMING.
I thought that YOU of all people would be intelligent enough to understand the difference.

bungalow 06-17-2006 11:37 PM

You know what, I just listened to the song that plays when you open the page.
That is a TERRIBLE example of emo. Listen to "A Voice Turned Vacant", though it is sad to say, I think Hot Cross is becoming pretty generic.

That sounds like Iron Maiden circa 1980 fronted by the guy from At The Drive In to me.

OK flame away :D

swim 06-17-2006 11:46 PM

^Don't you like Nation of Ulysses? I think you'd like emo up untill the mid 90s.

hiu 06-18-2006 01:15 AM

The whole emo style of hardcore was pretty shit. People just like playing up the Revolution Summer and anything called emo up until 1995 because they want to look smart. In reality it wasn't anything to write home about.

I agree, although I have no problem with people who play up the Revolution Summer, b/c some of the prolific bands are still collectively better than the 90s screamo movement. Neither WAS really anything to write home about. And after a while it gets tiring to hear bands like Dag Nasty and Nation of Ulysses get labeled emo...it really is a naughty word...the term didnt have much of a definitive meaning to begin with....even if there was such a thing, the word has become so bastardized that it is not worth the time to save it.

For further clarification, tell me these bands sound anything like Aiden, or whatever you morons think emo is. Especially if you think Motley Crue is heavier than CTTS.

Urban Hat€monger ? 06-18-2006 09:13 AM

OK I think I got it now Screamo = 80s Death Metal with a trendier haircut

Winter 06-18-2006 03:01 PM

Emo isn't rock btw...

I voted, Heavy Metal, because its my preference for type of rock, some argue metal is a total different genre of music to rock, but the theory and playing is the same really just metal is heavier, and classic is more relaxing and original.

Yeah, nor is metal.... And there is no such thing as a pentatonic scale, no band has ever played a song in 4/4 time, no rock bands have short hair, it's always long, eyeglasse's = bad music, accoustic guitars are more metal than electrics, there is no such thing as bass, only guitar and drums, Elvis was just a talentless Zep ripoff, asians invented rock n roll, not black people, Black Sabbath are soft rock, ELP are disco polka grindcore, Joy Division are symphonic black metal, Journey are bluegrass, Green Day are neo classical, etc.

See?... I can make up completely absurd, invalid garbage too.

cardboard adolescent 06-18-2006 05:36 PM

I voted alternative since I figured that covered everything from indie to post-punk.

EDIT: indie rock, excuse me.

TheBig3 06-18-2006 08:09 PM

Alt. Its not really pigeon-holed.

Damn...I'm surprised you didn't put Hard Rock on the poll!!!I mean, isn't that just common sense? The same thing could go for Soft Rock or Pop Rock even though they wouldn't necessarily be my choices, ya know?

Anyways, I chose Metal because I love the intensity and ferocity of drumming as a metal drummer like I do...
...it's nearly a workout in itself, which I also love to do to keep in incredible shape.Other than that, most of the guitar riffs are usually either evil, dark, driven, fast, shredding, or all of the above...
...God, do I ever love the intensity of jamming to a good, bonecrunching metal song!!!

Wild7Dustr 06-19-2006 03:35 AM

I also wanted to mention that you probally should've put Hard Rock in place of Goth, seeing as nobody seems to like Goth all that much around here...lol.

Just my 2 cents.

I second this statement.

"So in the end I had a cage around the sun
Looked pretty horny if I do say
The dog is dead and the sacrifice is done
All in all a pretty good day"

Uglycasanova 06-20-2006 02:31 AM

Bah! I hate subgenres, I voted from Alternative, which I guess counts as Indie.

judas_priest 06-20-2006 02:49 PM

I voted heavy metal, but I love some prog and classic rock too.

draxus 06-20-2006 04:39 PM

Heavy Metal-B/c Its very catchy

ZeppelinAir 06-20-2006 10:05 PM

ok, list all the ones i should have put?

bungalow 06-20-2006 10:06 PM

You shouldn't have made the list in the first place.
Actually, you shouldn't have even joined.

ZeppelinAir 06-20-2006 10:26 PM

so can any one help me out here, on the styles, i want to which ones i should have put:D

Merkaba 06-20-2006 11:43 PM

Well, considering theres a Rock education thread right next door...
