I would take "Brave New World" off that list.

Replace it with "Seventh Son" or "Somewhere in Time".

Brave is great, but doesn't hold up to those 2 at all. Best of their post 80's material.... but doesn't hold a candle to their 80's stuff.

You're crazy. I'm sure it was a landmark for its time, but it really hasn't aged particularly well. I think it was basically a transitional album and they were trying to figure out how to write songs for an entirely different type of vocalist, with mixed results. I mean, "22 Acacia Avenue" is fun the first few times you hear it, but after that it just gets more and more dull, "The Prisoner" is just kinda meh, and "Children of the Damned" is just kinda terrible.

I, obviously, disagree. Not that I'm crazy; I am. But NotB was the first Maiden album I got and I'll always love it. As for BNW, for me easily stands up against SiT or SSoaSS (don't you just hate these acronyms?) --- best comeback album ever.

Piece of Mind and Powerslave are considered the two to have.

It's always been a flawed album but it's also one of the most important metal albums ever released and therefore essential to have.

So, is it possible that nostalgia is clouding your judgement?

It's all well and good to talk about it's importance, but good is good and bad is bad. Not that it's a bad album, just not great. "Number of the Beast" was the first Maiden song I ever heard and I still love it. And the intro still gives me chills.

So much so that it makes your hair stand on end and pull silly faces.

Considering it launched Maiden (and metal to a degree) onto the world stage I think it's an album any aspiring fan has to hear. And I won't hear a word said against it. It's perfect, so there.

So you still like "22 Acacia Avenue"? Come on. It hasn't gotten a bit dull after thirty years?

Nope! Still love it, especially the end guitar chugging riffs before the last verse. Check my journal under "Albums that changed my life" here http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ml#post1199777 (While you're at it, check out today's post on "The Meat Grinder", in which I try to assassinate you to appease the Gods of Heavy Metal, but find out it's harder than I thought to kill a True Believer....!)

As far as #OTB: if you were buying it at the time it was first available, it was their best work to date. Any theories as to which one was better before or after from that viewpoint was purely subjective from then on forward when it comes to the circles I was involved in.

Piece Of Mind on the other hand holds an extremely sacred home in my camp.
