It's always been a flawed album but it's also one of the most important metal albums ever released and therefore essential to have.

Look at Rate Your Music for a good idea of the popular choices for must have Maiden Albums.

Powerslave
Seventh Son

are top 2 studio albums. And are very close in rating.

Coming in after those 2 is "Number of the Beast", "Iron Maiden", "Piece of Mind", "Somewhere in Time" and "Killers".

Number 1 rated is actually "Live After Death" and "Rock in Rio" is between "Iron Maiden" and "Piece of Mind"

Not saying these are the perfect embodiment of best, but as far as what people rate as best, gives you an idea of popular opinion.

So... Seventh Son is a good choice? I think so, I like the tracks on it and it is the next piece in the "puzzle" (which currently consists only of Powerslave and Somewhere in Time).

In all the time that I've been into metal/hard rock (since '87) one band that I never took time to really try was Iron Maiden. Why? I don't know. I never went through a phase of disliking them or their music, content to just have respect for them as a well established band. I just never gave them chance or took the time to listen to an album, only ever having heard the more well known Maiden tracks that had relative commercial success (Number Of The Best, Clairvoyant, Run To The Hills etc.) It's took me all this time to finally get round to listening to them and I'm now working my way through, what is up to now, a very impressive back catalog.
Still, better (very) late than never I suppose!

It's never too late. You will not regret.
I have an awfully wide taste in music. It was hard for me to choose a favorite band, but Iron Maiden got a place in that spot for me. Why? Because they're amazing.

Wow, I sound very confident.

Enjoy almost every song, from almost every album. They have stayed strong with the years and rarely deviated from there sound. I love them to peices.

Iron Maiden win the prize of my favourite band... just due to the fact that they were never content to squeeze all of the success from one good album. The only two albums that I have never been able to enjoy are the two from the Blaze Bayley era - but even then 'The Clansman' and 'Man on the Edge' are still really good tracks. I can enjoy the short 3/4 minute full on songs like 'Holy Smoke' and 'Sanctuary' just as much as the epic 8-9 minutes + songs like 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner' and 'Phantom of the Opera'.
Not only do they have a full back catalogue of awesome music spanning 15 albums and 30 years but they can still kick it live. All in all, Iron Maiden make me feel proud to be a metal loving British teenager.

Listened through their debut album, it's great. I think it'll be the next Maiden album I buy. Or Piece of Mind or Seventh Son. I want to finish the picture of Eddie smoothly.

You mean the one on the sides of the CDs?

Yes. I have Powerslave and Somewhere in Time, so buying Seventh Son of Seventh Son or Piece of Mind will allow me to finish it smoothly. However, Iron Maiden is a great album, and just the fact that it is their first studio album counts to me.

And then they all threw the horns and had a mosh.
