Progressive Black Metal V Country tinged Southern Rock? I can imagine many Neil Young fans not giving Agalloch the time of the day and vise versa. I happen to like both but they have wildly different sounds and the forum now provides a place for both.

You already have multiple different styles that lead back to rock as separate forums. I say, make sub-forums for rock and get rid of the other ones. The following sub-forums under rock would probably cover most ground: Alternative/Indie-Rock, Art-Rock/Experimental, Dance, Folk/Country Rock, Hard Rock, Pop/Rock, Punk/New Wave, Rock & Roll/Roots, Soft Rock, Psychedelic/Garage, Europop, Foreign Language Rock, and British Invasion. Voila, problem solved!

Because there's no demand for it.

Other than half a dozen big name bands like you mentioned there are only a handful of people who actually listen to it in any great detail.

If I was to start a thread on Glaxo Babies or Blurt I'd be lucky if it got more than a couple of replies.

Besides virtually all those bands are/were on independent labels so the indie forum is fine.

Why though?

There isn't anywhere near that many threads or traffic on the site to even warrant putting that into place.

The point of my posts in this thread were to point out the flaws of what the term "rock" has become on this site, which is what the thread was started for. It wasn't an actual demand or anything, just an example of how Music Banter could better represent what is and is not rock.

And your idea of how to represent rock is to have 13 sub forums. Which is currently un-needed and un-workable.

That's great if it's not needed, but that would be the best way to represent all of the different corners rock has. I was recommending doing this rather than making forums about styles of rock, when there is already a rock forum. In this case, wouldn't you have that style under the rock forum?

Not all rock music needs representing.
The only reason sub forums are created is because there is demand for them , not just because a particular type of music exists.

That's what people seem to be missing here. The prog/classic forum was created because there are people here who could make it work and there has been a demand for it. In fact people have been demanding a prog forum for nearly 3 years. Now we have a number of members who can make a prog forum work it has been put into place.
That is why sub forums are created.

What about people who like all forms of rock though? Are they just left out to dry? Besides, you can go far more in-depth with styles of rock, I just picked the main ones.
