Not only were they influential, they were original in my book, sure there was always bob dylan, but csn was so much more well rounded, with better guitar, better quality vocals and such. I think they were revolutionary in terms of both folk rock and musical protest...

I'd agree but with an added (thanks you young). Ohio is a monster of a song, the opening lines "10 soldiers and nixons gone and, we're finally on our own, this summer I hear the drummin, four dead in Ohio"

That brutal, the music is in no way ominious, but those words creep up my spine. Maybe its the historic relvence.

Tough call on CSNY or Sabbath, I think the easy call is Sabbath, but that doesn't make it right.

My 3 favorites from your pick, though none of them made it onto my list...

2. Red Hot Chili Peppers - One of the greats for modern music. Thanks to them for being an enduring wonder over nearly the last two decades.

3. Pink Floyd - Easily one of the most influential. So original and entrancing.

4. Led Zeppelin - Where would music be without them? Manowar would be our heroes.

5. Nirvana - Decomposed all the damn pc barriers of the early 90's, highly influential.

6. Rage Against The Machine - Woopy, not that diverse in their career, but why change a winning formula. Great material. Crowd Pleasers.

7. Guns N Roses - Violence like rock had never seen. Axl may be a prick but he and the band make awesome timeless music.

8. Pantera - Same reason RATM is on my list. A complete package.

9. Queen - Timeless music. They will Rock You. Freddie is a legend also, very influential.

10. Tool - So shoot me, 3/4 of the world hates them or doesn't know them. But the level of thought is second to none, live performances are immaculate, and they are a champion band, not a band of champions.

No particular order for the above.
Perfect list. i love tool they kick major ass

Not including metal, because that just be unfair. In order:

1.) Red Hot Chili Peppers
2.) Queen
3.) Led Zeppelin
4.) Incubus
5.) Rage Against the Machine
6.) The Eagles
7.) Creedence Clearwater Revival
8.) Primus
9.) Alice In Chains
10.) Pink Floyd

Honourable mentions to Deep Purple, AC/DC, Rush, Smashing Pumpkins, Jimi Hendrix Experience, the Doors, Radiohead, Mars Volta, The Who, Velvet Revolver (I'm partial towards them) and the Beatles
