I'm not really in with new American music. I have only been listening to new English bands recently like, The Coral, Bloc Party, Kasabian etc.

I loved the Grunge period of the late 80's and early 90's in Seattle but that was it really appart from stand out bands.

I think there`s a kind of swing effect between American rock & British Rock

In the late 80s/Early 90s most of my favourite bands were American Faith No More , Janes Addiction , The Pixies , Soundgarden , Ministry , Nirvana , Dinosaur JR , Smashing Pumpkins.

However around 1993-1999 America seemed to have a kind of grunge hangover & so all that seemed to come out of the US was awful grunge lite bands & Nu Metal there didn`t seem to be anybody doing anything different, while in the UK we had the likes of Suede , Blur , Pulp , Elastica , Radiohead , Mogwai , The Delgados , Primal Scream, Clinic & Oasis.

I think in recent years the UK scene is a little in the doldrums despite all the new bands that seem to be around.I do like a lot of these bands but there`s not really any that stand out like Radiohead or the Pixies did. With bands such as The Shins , The White Stripes , The Walkmen America seems to have bands that want to do something a bit different to the usual stadium rock that seems to plague the American charts.

I`d say as far as ORIGINAL rock music America seems to be on the rise & The UK in decline but they`re around the same level at the moment.

I think british is pretty good atm and American is in decline. All those bands like Sound Garden and The Pixies were awesome but now it is getting very bad imo. I still like QOTSA though.

I'm actually quite enjoying British atm.

The Music
The Coral
The Zutons
Bloc Party
Kasabian

There are a few others as well I have forgotten.

They may not be new Mondays, Roses, Oasis's and Radios but they are keeping it going...

Not that nationality matters but I think right now most of the good stuff is on the stateside:

Queens
Stripes
Kings
System
Beck
Volta

I don't know, The Britts to me right now are going back to the dance floor, I've read that dance clubs are just something thats introduced there at an earlier age. So provided thats an accurate statement it makes sense that it would be an influence.

I'd prefer sloppy guitar to robotic synth most days.

these 4 bands are household names of rock music..and they are british..get my drift?? :D

Deep Purple sucks compared to 90% of the other classic rock bands, I'd take them second to any of the following:

Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, Lynard Skynard, Fleetwood Mac, Doors, Cream, Boston...pretty mcuh anyone. You could have picked any other band and I'd have agreed. And if I want to nit pick, thank Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, and leadbelly for those bands (yankee)

Where as in da UK ya dont get the american "we are better than everyone else" attitude and so bands from the UK have to work for their record label. So really i think UK artists produce better bands just on a lesser scale than America. And america produces a lot less decent bands in comparrison to all the bad ones, but theres so many of them to start with that there are quite a lot of good usa bands coming thru. Its fairly even really, i just think Americas music is heard on a larger scale throughout the world so one would be able to relate to americas music more so than the UK....... And thats me, im spent.

The UK says every new band is the "saviour of rock and roll" I don't think they have to work harder than anyone here for anything. It stands to reason that a band accepted in one part of England has a better chance to be accepted in all part where as a band in Chicago is not recieved the same in detroit as they are in New York.

And lets be serious for a moment. You honestly think Green Day got a record deal unfairly? You're making it sound like they got picked up for reasons other than musicallity. I don't agree with that at all. I think they earned their slot.

And to you who said it started with the beatles, how about Dylan, Little Richard, Elivs, MoTown, and Johnny Cash.

The Beatles started as a cover band.

The whole Future Of Rock n Roll thing started with the Strokes & The White Stripes. Both American bands as it happens

I like queen, my favourite is bohemian rhapsody, but apart from that I would say that american music is better, less manufactured bull****, but that might change with american idol.
