Well you know, it's one of the most well known bands. It's cool to like metallica. It makes kids 'alternative'. I think that most of them don't even know Iron Maiden/Dream Theatre either. They don't look further than Nirvana and Metallica as the ultimate.

I think people should quit assuming Metallica sucks now just based off St. Anger, apprently their shows are still kick ass live and isn't their new album supposed to be in vein of their older stuff?

I don't like them, and I think this thread is stupid. Alo answered your question, its the same with zeppelin, beatles and other classic rock bands.

I like them too, and like many marks, I believe Master of Puppets is one of the finest metal albums ever made. They are just overrated, that's all. And NOW they suck. I might change my opinion if they release a good album soon.

Its just strange that so many people, especially the typical emo fangirls of Fall Out Boy, like just this one metal band. And even Iron Maiden are almost as well known as 'Tallica, yet they don't get as much attention as the latter.

Yeah, I saw them live during the summer, and they blew me away, best three hours of my life. They played a new song 'Berlin' i think it was called, it was much better than previous albums.

Did you not read Levithan's post? Seriously, they're sick live and their new album is probably going to be good. Out of their whole career deciding they suck based off one album is pretty weak.

I don't know where you live but Maiden aren't nearly as known as Metallica over here.

because they used to make good music. Their earlier stuff was genuinely good music. Then the sh*t like St. Anger, and it appealed to the little kids who wanted to listen to "metal", but didnt actually like any of the bands that were making unique music, or any o the old bands who had a less watered down style tha metalica's new stuff. So they gravitate to a band who makes watered down, easy to listen to "metal", while still having a history of making good music earlier on so they can talk about listening to "real metal."

What was mass produced about St. Anger?

Look folks, if you happen to read this post you can't say their new album sucked huge ass and that they sold out unless you want someone calling you on it.

Frankly I've never heard anything like St. Anger which obviously isn't a good thing, it was a horribly produced album. And if you said they suck, I'll just point you to any massivly famous band and drag you through the massive back catalouge, largely filled with ****.

GUYS GUYS GUYS!!! Metallica is LEGENDARY!! Give them a break...they are one of my favorite bands....i mean, if you like Kill 'em All, Master of Puppets, Ride The Lightning, Black Album, S&M, Garage Inc....how can just one album make you not liek them...dont get me wrong...im not a huge St. Anger fan...i totally dig their old stuff compared to their new...but people change...you cant just call them "overated" or sellouts for one bad record...i mean, idk...thats just like screwed in my opinion...and yeah i wonder why a lot of people like Metallica....hmm thats a toughy...maybe its cuz they ROCK!!!! Did ya ever think of that one....tons of ppl are tallica fans...including old, middle aged, and young people...so get over yourself!! Oh, and i like tons of music....including punk...(Ramones, The Casualties, Sex Pistols, Social Distortion, The Clash, Dead Kennedys,Crass, Rancid, Operation Ivy) old country (Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Hank WIlliams) and rock/metal (Metallica, Maiden, Stone SOur, Nonpoint, Mudvayne, Shinedown, Trivium) and alot more...so yeah tell me those bands suck!

JESUS, you guys suck....support your band!! ONE MF bad album and it liek everyone turned their back on them....metallica is doing what they love...making music...thats what theyve alwasy been about...if you were true fans...youd stick with ur band...through the tough times...
